تتحدَّث هذه الرواية عن (آنا روزا ) وهي كاتبة في الثامنة عشرة من عمرها تتفتح وتكبر في جمهورية الدومينيكان، ذلك البلد الذي تُخشى فيه الكلمات، ومع ذلك فإن هناك الكثير من الإلهام حولها : مراقبة أخيها يبحث عن مستقبل ، وتعلمها للرقص والحب واكتشافها ماذا يعني أن تكـون جزءاً من المجتمع ـ كل ذلك كان يجب على آنا روزا أن تكتبه... وأثناء كفاحها للعثور على صوتها، وعلى طريقة لجعله مسموعاً، تدرك آنا روزا قوة كلماتها لتخويل العالم من حولها ـ ولتجاوز آثار المآسي التي لا يمكن تصورها..
