Grace Fisher's parents want her to settle down with her best friend, Daniel King. Friends since childhood, Grace and Daniel do not see each other in a romantic light. It is Daniel's cousin, Isaac, now an Englischer, that Grace hopes to court. When Isaac comes back to Lancaster after five years away to spend a few weeks with Daniel's family, Grace prays that she and Isaac can get to know each other better.
