Addiction History

Two great speakers alternate back and forth, talking about AA. They each tell a short version of their stories. Then, they talk about the Washingtonians, Dr. Carl Jung, and Rowland Hazard. The history of AA is talked about as the spiritual roots of AA. They talk about sponsorship and taking the steps. There are lots of stories and experiences in the fellowship.

We are a wonder of evolution. Powerful yet dextrous, instinctive yet thoughtful, we are expert communicators and innovators. Our exceptional abilities have created the civilisation we know today. But we're also deeply flawed. Our bodies break, choke and fail, whether we're kings or peasants. Diseases thwart our boldest plans. Since he was a young boy, Joe Balzer dreamed of flying. Marty Mann The first woman to get sober in Alcoholics Anonymous tells her story in a 1968 talk at San Francisco, CA. This is the best example of Marty Mann recovery story I have heard. The sound quality is very good, which is unusual for a 1968 AA recording. Great audiobook about recovery - historic and enjoyable. Marty was the first woman to achieve lasting sobriety in AA, founder of National Council on Alcoholism, author of at least two books on alcoholism, author of AA's The Big Book story "Women Suffer, Too", and co-founder of The AA Grapevine.

She discovered Margaritas when a marvelous host prepared them for her and the sisters at an outing. Right from the start, she did not drink like other people, especially the other sisters. How her alcoholism progressed, and then how she found AA.

While some have attempted to explain the cultural and religious significance of this cactus and drug, Alexander S. Dawson offers a completely new way of understanding the place of peyote in history. In this provocative new audiobook, Dawson argues peyote has marked the boundary between the Indian and the West since the Spanish Inquisition outlawed it in 1620.

All Porter Fischer wanted was the $4,000 Tony Bosch owed him. But Bosch would not pay him back, so he swiped Bosch’s Biogenesis ledgers as collateral. Fischer eventually examined the lists of clients and treatment plans revealed in the ledgers and saw what he really had: proof that major and minor sports figures came to the Miami antiaging clinic for anabolic steroids, human growth hormones, and other illegal drugs. This audiobook features Sister Ignatia's talk at 1960 AA Convention Medical Meeting with Colonel Townes. It was chaired by John Park Lee, administrator at St. Luke's Hospital.

Habitual drug use in the United States is at least as old as the nation itself. Habit Forming traces the history of unregulated drug use and dependency before 1914, when the Harrison Narcotic Tax Act limited sales of opiates and cocaine under US law. Many Americans used opiates and other drugs medically and became addicted. Some tried Hasheesh Candy, injected morphine, or visited opium dens, but neither use nor addiction was linked to crime, due to the dearth of restrictive laws. After the Civil War, American presses published extensively about domestic addiction.
