The wonderful but quirky Wizard of Oz has invented a plane to go strato-sphering. Zooming among the clouds and shooting stars above OZ certainly produces a host of strange adventures. This last book about OZ by Ruth Thompson includes many well known characters of that fairy land like the Wizard, Dorothy, The Tin Man, and The Cowardly Lion but has some that have been a bit overlooked before like Jellia Jam, Ozma's chief maid-in-waiting and The Soldier With Green Whiskers. A high flying tale with danger and excitement! But don't worry, everyone will come through in the end just fine. - I promise.

The land of OZ is the happiest fairyland anywhere, but there are evil creatures whose only ambition is to destroy that happiness. Lurking inside Mount Illuso, just south of the Deadly Desert, live the Magic Mimics, a race devoted to causing the maximum chaos and unhappiness everywhere, but mainly in the land of OZ. Until now they have been kept at bay by a spell, but when Princess Ozma leaves OZ for 3 days, their foul machinians are quicly put into play. Princess Dorothy is left in chage of OZ and must deal with these happiness crushing beings.

Kipling began working on the book by telling the first three chapters as bedtime stories to his daughter Josephine. These had to be told "just so" (exactly in the words she was used to) or she would complain. The stories describe how one animal or another acquired its most distinctive features, such as how the leopard got his spots.

John Sark is the hero who was raised by animals (like Tarzan) in the temperate, twilight zone of Mercury, then captured and civilized. He's a mercenary on Mars now, dealing with humanoid Martians and their extremely nasty pre-humanoid race enemies. The fights are brutal and frantic yet detailed enough to bring you right into the midst of the action; the suspense is real and tingling. A wonderful listen.

Here is a story starring the always unconventional Terrestrial Diplomat Retief. As a diplomat, Retief does not always follow procedure. Well, the truth is that he almost never follows procedure but somehow his wit and strength manage to salvage most situations from the bumbling of the other diplomats. His sardonic approach to inter galactic negotiations is always a delight to hear. Keith Laumer at his sardonic best.

"Herbert West -Reanimator" is a horror short story by American writer H. P. Lovecraft. It was written between October 1921 and June 1922. It is also one of the first depictions of zombies as scientifically reanimated corpses, with animalistic and uncontrollable temperaments.

The Little Mermaid is a very well-known fairy tale by the Danish author Hans Christian Andersen about a young mermaid willing to give up her life in the sea and her identity as a mermaid to gain a human soul and the love of a human prince. Yes, "The Eyes Have It" is a whimsical story, making gentle fun of certain writing styles, but only a top-flight science-fictionist like Philip Dick , we thought, could have written this story, in just this way.

There they meet the Shaggy Man, who is on a quest to rescue his brother from the clutches of the wicked Nome King.

The plot follows a crew of 10 trying to hunt the Snark, an animal that may turn out to be a highly dangerous Boojum. The only one of the crew to find the Snark quickly vanishes, leading the narrator to explain that it was a Boojum after all. The Bellman, whose only navigational skills consist of ringing his bell, is my favorite next to the nervous beaver who knits lace most of the time.

The full title of Swift's pamphlet is A Modest Proposal for Preventing the Children of Poor People from Being a Burtden to their Parents, or the Country, and for Making them Beneficial to the Publick."The tract is an ironically conceived attempt to "find out a fair, cheap, and easy Method" for converting the starving children of Ireland into "sound and useful members of the Commonwealth." Across the country poor children, predominantly Catholics, are living in squalor because their families are too poor to keep them fed and clothed.
