Rudolf Steiner (1861 - 1925) war Gründer der Waldorfschulen und Wegbereiter der Anthroposophie. In diesem Buch legt er seine Philosophie dar und beschreibt, unter welchen Bedingungen der Mensch in seinem Denken und Handeln als geistig freies Wesen bezeichnet werden kann - ein Grundlagenwerk also.

In questa opera, il cui sottotitolo è "Una introduzione alla conoscenza soprasensibile", pubblicata nel 1904, viene trattata la natura corporea, animica e spirituale dell'uomo; corpo, anima, e spirito. Si parla inoltre della reincarnazine e del concetto di karma, dei mondi animico e spirituale, dello spirito nel mondo spirituale dopo la morte, delle forme-pensiero e dell'aura umana. Un testo indispensabile per chiunque ambisca a vedere oltre la realtà sensibile.

The present book, Mysticism at the Dawn of the Modern Age, is a fruit of Steiner's lecturing activity. The substance of it was contained in a series of lectures he gave in Berlin beginning just after Michaelmas in 1900, when he was thirty-nine. Steiner wrote later, “By means of the ideas of the mystics from Meister Eckhart to Jacob Boehme, I found expression for the spiritual perceptions which, in reality, I decided to set forth. I then summarized the series of lectures in the book, Mysticism at the Dawn of the Modern Age.”

Questo è un ciclo di sei conferenze tenute ad Hannover dal 27 dicembre 1911 al 1 gennaio 1912 e recuperate da registrazioni non rivedute dall'Autore. I concetti qui espressi possono trovarsi nei libri "Teosofia" e "Scienza Occulta". Nonostante la loro necessaria incompletezza, le conferenze hanno il vantaggio di riportare, come vive, le parole dell'Autore, che, nel parlare e nel calibrare il suo pubblico, insisteva o meno nella spiegazione di questo o quel concetto.

Sette conferenze tenute a Berlino tra il 21 ottobre 1909 e il 12 maggio 1910, non rivedute dall'autore, come le altre raccolte di conferenze. Si parla dell'evoluzione dell'anima fino alla formazione della coscienza, e dell'Io, e, nell'ultima conferenza, della missione dell'artista in questo, approfondendo le opere di Omero, Eschilo, Dante, Shakespeare e Goethe.
