The King in Yellow is a collection of 10 short stories on supernatural subjects first published 1895. The title refers to a mysterious play which causes derangement in the minds of those who read or see it, and which is mentioned in the first four stories.

Scott empieza a sentir como si, por solo mirarle, estuviera influenciando su pintura, que en vez de reflejar una sonrosada y lozana Tessie, empieza a mostrarla con la piel pálida y enfermiza. Tessie le cuenta que tiene un sueño recurrente sobre un coche fúnebre que conduce el trabajador del cementerio, y en el ataúd está... Pero el extraño símbolo amarillo da a entender que, posiblemente, no fue un sueño.
