Gulliver sticht mit seiner Besatzung in Richtung Australien in See. Nachdem Festland in Sicht war, wurden Beiboote ausgesetzt um Wasser zu suchen. Gulliver träumte schon immer davon Schiffsarzt zu werden. Am 4. Mai 1699 sticht er mit dem Schiff Antilope in See und beginnt eine Reise in die Südsee. Nach einigen Monaten erleidet Gulliver Schiffbruch. Er rettet sich mit seinem Hund Fredo an den Strand von Liliput. Er sah eine winzige Stadt vor sich liegen, die wie ein Spielzeugparadies aussah.

De fantasierijke roman van de Ierse schrijver Jonathan Swift over de avontuurlijke reizen van scheepsarts Lemuel Gulliver naar de verste delen van de wereld is al zo'n 300 jaar een klassieker en een groots werk in de Engelstalige literatuur. Eerst bezoekt Gulliver's schip het eiland van de kleine kuil, waar de bewoners slechts 15 centimeter hoog zijn. De hoogte komt overeen met het niveau van de politieke discussies van deze mensen. Zijn tweede reis leidt hem naar naar Brobdingnag, dat wordt geteisterd door veldslagen, en naar een vliegend eiland.

Als Gullivers Reisen 1726 erschien, wurde es schnell zum Jugendbuchklassiker. Doch Jonathan Swift schrieb seine Geschichte mit einer derart scharfen Feder, dass auch Erwachsene sie durchaus mit Gewinn lesen können. "Es birgt scharfsinnige Gesellschaftsbeobachtungen und Psychogramme, entlarvt den korrupten, geld- und machtgeilen, selbstsüchtigen, bequemen Zivilisationsmenschen, den wir kennen und hassen, auch und vielleicht besonders in uns selbst" (FAZ). In seiner Geschichte erzählt Swift von Gulliver, der auf einem Schiff anheuert und bald als Arzt an Bord tätig ist.

Man würde es weder für möglich halten noch glauben, falls man es nicht - wie "LILYLA" versichert - wüsste, was sich hinter einem so unscheinbaren Titel für eine literarische Dimension verbirgt. Ein Text, der unterschiedliche Ebenen und gesellschaftliche Strukturen auf so atemraubend analytische, philosophische und humoristische Art und Weise reflektiert, dass der Intellekt Purzelbäume schlägt und es das Herz zum Erblühen bringt, falls sich an dessen Stelle nicht ein schwarzes Loch befindet.

Ein englischer Geschäftsmann, Mr Wood, hat einen glorreichen Einfall, wie er den Iren ihr Geld auf ebenso geschickte wie schamlose Art und Weise legal aus deren Taschen ziehen kann. Jedoch hat er nicht damit gerechnet, dass Mr. Jonathan Swift seinen durch höchste britische Stellen abgesegneten Beutezug durchschauen würde.
