Published in 1901, "The Children's Life of the Bee", by Belgian author Maurice Maeterlinck, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature; is a wonderfully informative and poetic in-depth look at what exactly goes on in a hive, with insightful observations on its fascinating characters such as the drones, the workers and, of course, the queen.

"The Little Match Girl" is a story about a child's dreams and undying hope. On a cold New Year's Eve, a young, poor girl tries to sell matches in the street. She is already shivering from cold and early hypothermia. Still, she is afraid to go home because her father will beat her for not selling any matches. She shelters in a nook and sits down. The girl lights the matches to warm herself. In their glow, she starts seeing the dreamlike visions, such as a Christmas tree and a holiday feast.

"The Knights of Arthur" by Frederik Pohl, published in 1958, is a humorous sci-fi tale. The sum total population of the entire U.S. is now less than 10,000(!) as the listener is taken on a wildly funny ride, an Arthurian quest, actually; but of a very eccentric nature indeed, as Arthur is an entity with very strong and particular opinions... without body and limbs, by the way.

"Omnilingual" is a sci-fi short story written by H. Beam Piper. The story was originally published in 1957 in magazine-form. The work is unusual in focusing on the problem of archaeology on an alien culture... An expedition from Earth to Mars discovers a deserted city, the remains of an advanced civilization that died out 50,000 years before! The human scientists recover books and documents left behind, and are puzzled by their contents. Earnest young archeologist Martha Dane deciphers a few words.

"The Misplaced Battleship" is a sci-fi short story by author Harry Harrison, published in 1960. James Bolivar DiGriz, alias "Slippery Jim" and "The Stainless Steel Rat", is a fictional character and the protagonist of a series of comic science fiction novels by the same author. "Slippery Jim" is the listener's wonderfully sly, funny and resourceful hero in this entertaining and amusing work; where he has to investigate and - hopefully! - solve the case of a dangerous battleship floating around unaccounted for.

"Red Nails" is one of the books featuring Conan the Cimmerian (a.k.a Conan the Barbarian) written by American author Robert E. Howard. It is set in the pseudo-historical Hyborian Age and concerns Conan encountering a lost city in which the degenerate inhabitants are proactively resigned to their own destruction. The tale also features a tough and beautiful female pirate named Valeria the Red, catching Conan's eye as well as his respect.

"Ozma of Oz", published in 1907, was the third book of L. Frank Baum's Oz series. It was the first in which Baum was clearly intending a series of Oz books. All of them share the author's wonderful way with prose and tone, and most of them are about very ordinary men and women, living their daily lives... Especially the women, their hopes, fears, strength and weakness are brought to loving life by the author!

"Beyond the Black River" is one of the original stories about Conan the Cimmerian (a.k.a. Conan the Barbarian), written by American author Robert E. Howard and published in 1935. It is set in the pseudo-historical Hyborian Age and concerns Conan fighting the savage Hyborian Picts in the unsettled lands beyond the infamous Black River... The story is considered one of Howard's very best (and most brutal) and features rather significantly a feral dog named Slasher that wins the deep respect of Conan!

"The repairman" - A sci-fi story about a lighthouse, lizard like life forms, the lighthouse repairman, and a robot... "My boss leaned back, wiped his hands on his handkerchief and gave me "Lecture Forty-four on Company Duty and My Troubles". 'This department is officially called Maintenance and Repair, when it really should be called trouble-shooting. Hyperspace beacons are made to last forever - or damn close to it. When one of them breaks down, it is never an accident.

In it, Chesterton presents an original view of Christian religion. He sees it as the answer to natural human needs, the "answer to a riddle" in his own words.

"The Road to Oz: In Which Is Related How Dorothy Gale of Kansas, The Shaggy Man, Button Bright, and Poly-chrome the Rainbow's Daughter Met on an Enchanted Road and Followed it All the Way to the Marvelous Land of Oz" is the fifth of L. Frank Baum's "Oz" books, published in 1909. As the long, complete title of the work says quite a bit about the wonderful proceedings in this work, there is no need for more than for the listener to just jump into it all and enjoy.

An intriguing novella by author Murray Leinster, published in 1949, about machines which have the capacity to retain emotions for the missions they accomplish, and weird signals from the future, which annihilate less advanced mechanisms! A classic piece of sci-fi pulp by the masterful Leinster.

The story is set in the pseudo-historical Hyborian Age and concerns Conan becoming a notorious pirate and plundering the coastal villages of Kush alongside Bêlit, a head-strong femme fatale. Due to its epic scope and atypical romance, the work is considered an undisputed classic of Conan lore and is often cited by Howard scholars as one of his most famous tales!

"Jewels of Gwahlur" is one of the original tales starring the sword and sorcery hero Conan the Cimmerian (a.k.a. Conan the Barbarian), written by author Robert E. Howard. Set in the pseudo-historical Hyborian Age, it concerns several parties, including Conan, fighting over and hunting for the eponymous treasure in Hyborian Africa... As always, lots of action, appetizing but dangerous women and no shortage of suspense!

"Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz" is the fourth book (among many!) set in the Land of Oz by author L. Frank Baum, published in 1908. Written shortly after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and around the time Baum moved to California, the book starts with an earthquake in California. Dorothy and others - such as Eureka (her cat), Zeb (her cousin) - are riding a buggy being pulled by a cab-horse named Jim, when suddenly they are swallowed up by cracks in the earth, and fall into an underground cavern, where they begin their adventures, including meeting a race of people made entirely out of vegetables... this will be the least strange part of this wonderful story!
