A lovely full-cast, family-based saga by Catherine Czerkawska. 2024 jährt sich der 100. Todestag von Franz Kafka, einem der weltweit meistgelesenen Schriftsteller. Ursprünglich war die Sammlung aber gar nicht für junge Leser*innen gedacht. Hänsel und Gretel, Rotkäppchen und Schneewittchen sind längst zu deutschen Exportschlagern geworden. Doch ebenso großartig und oft noch abgründiger sind die nicht so bekannten Märchen. In Allerleirauh etwa versucht eine Königstochter, den sexuellen Annäherungsversuchen ihres Vaters zu entkommen, indem sie in das Nachbarland flieht und mit Ruß und pelziger Kleidung bedeckt in den Küchen des dortigen Schlosses arbeitet.

Astrid Lindgrens Figuren haben Generationen von Kindern geprägt und begeistern auch Erwachsene bis heute. "Pippi Langstrumpf" ist zwar nicht ihr Erstlingswerk, aber das wohl Bekannteste. Da es als Kinder- buch zu anspruchsvoll erschien, wurde es vom Verlag zunächst abgelehnt. Mit überarbeitetem Text und der erfolgreichen Teilnahme an einem Verlagswettbewerb gelang Lindgren 1945 die Veröffentlichung.
