Imagine a romantic afternoon on the seashore when a man and woman sunbathing have the sense that there is something wrong. The woman has the intuition that the sea or something in the sea has designs on her man. Has the ocean developed a personality, an identity? Women are said to have a sixth sense and the man's partner senses that the ocean is a female lusting for her man. The woman makes every effort to keep the man out of the grasp of the lustful sea, but will her efforts be enough to keep her man?

In short, Elmer is a drunken, womanizing hypocrite who becomes a Baptist minister, a position from which he is soon ejected. He then links up with star revivalist Sharon Falconer, who is heavily based on Aimee Semple McPherson. Throughout his career, Gantry moves through many settings and scenarios illustrating aspects of the American religion. With religion as entertainment and show business, both Elmer and Sharon are consummate performers. They are always on.

H.P. Lovecraft's The Rats in the Walls takes us to an extremely creepy place, Exham Priory, possibly infested by creepy creatures: rats. That, however, is only the beginning - it becomes continually even creepier when we discover what is in the subterranean chamber below the priory.

"The Tomb" is a short story written by H. P. Lovecraft in June 1917 in the first work of fiction Lovecraft wrote as an adult. H. P. Lovecraft was born in 1890 in Providence, Rhode Island, where he lived most of his life. He wrote many essays and poems early in his career, but gradually focused on the writing of horror stories. His relatively small corpus of fiction - three short novels and about 60 short stories - has nevertheless exercised a wide influence on subsequent work in the field, and he is regarded as the leading 20th-century American author of supernatural fiction.

Pickman was an artist, one of the best, but even his imagination couldn't conjure his last model. H. P. Lovecraft was one of the greatest horror writers of all time. His seminal work appeared in the pages of legendary Weird Tales and has influenced countless writer of the macabre. This is one of those stories.

Charles Ward, even as a child, had always wandered the streets of ancient Providence, drawn inexorably to its domes and spires, its hills and homes, its history and its haunts. His antiquarian habits were always just so: an innocent preoccupation with the city and its wonders. Yet, when the discovery of a shadowy ancestor exposes an eldritch malevolence long thought to be contained, Charles must resist the dark grip of his fascination, before it consumes him, and his world, completely.

A shadow of degeneration, tainted ancestry and forbidden mystery hangs over the New England town of Innsmouth. The narrator of this novella by H. P. Lovecraft, a college student touring the detaining berg, discovers far more then he bargained for. Normal citizens tend to disappear, while the indigenous residents are taking on a fish-like appearance. Strangers are definitely not welcome in this rotting town where heathen ceremonies are said to take place. And could it be that the narrator is starting to resemble his grandmother and dead uncle Douglas?

This short story became possibly H.P. Lovecraft's favorite. Lots of things and possibilities going on here. A meteorite has crashed near a small farm west of Arkham, Massachusetts and strange things begin to happen. The life force seems to be being drained from living organisms near the well. The story is being told by a surveyor who is surveying the area prior to a damn being built that will flood the area with a lake. The potential problem is, the "thing" lives in the water of the well.

Lovecraft imagines that Earth was inhabited by highly developed creatures spawned from outer space long before the arrival of man. Vestiges of this civilization have lain buried in Antarctica for eons and eons. Professor William Dyer discovers this hidden land, and the horrors that had remained dormant there until disturbed by the professor and his party. Once again they are dormant, but can the professor convince others to leave sleeping monsters lie?

In the distant future, Earth is at war with the planet Mars. Three saboteurs from Earth cause a major Martian city to disappear. They board the last spaceship bound for the planet Earth, and set up a conversation with a stranger…

Written as a sequel to Second Variety, this is an exciting and thought-provoking view into a different world than the one left in "Second Variety". We have a fascination with time travel. But what could go wrong? Give this a listen, and see what you think.

A cat walking across a room swerves suddenly and walks carefully around something we can't see. We shrug, smile, and remark that cats are always doing that. Our hitherto amiable dog suddenly develops the irritating habit of barking and growling violently at certain innocent passersby. We still shrug, wonder what's got into the mutt, and pass it off. Mr. Dick argues with frightening urgency that if we are wise, we wilt immediately investigate these oddities of animal behavior.

Time travel may have its consequences. We can only speculate. Philip K. Dick takes us there.

Unfortunately, Arthur C. Clarke has very little in common with a ballpoint pen - a pity, since he spends so much of his time under water. Writing memorable novels might might be enough in itself for an ordinary man, but for Clarke these represent only interruptions in that dominating area of his life which was spent with goggles and aqualung, competing with fish and porpoises on their own premises. Still, let us be thankful for what fate gives us; for it is unlikely that anyone without at least a trace of dolphin blood could have delighted us with this story.
