Homer is one of the most important figures in ancient Greek literature, believed to have lived in the 8th century BC. Lysistrata is an ancient Greek comedy by Aristophanes, which was originally performed in Athens in 411 BC. At a meeting, Lysistrata persuades the women of the warring cities to withhold sexual privileges from their men. She has also persuaded the older women of Athens to seize the Acropolis.

Euripides (c. 480-406 B.C.E.) is the author of eighteen extant plays and many more only surviving in fragments. He is the youngest of the three great Athenian tragedians with Aeschylus and Sophocles.
