This month on the YFWM podcast we have the very special guest Hamish Mcnab. Well known in the Melbourne music scene for his performing in many rock bands over the years, his work as a live sound engineer, producer and as the organizer and founder of the Freedom Arts Movement, (an organization that hosts mini backyard festivals across Melbourne each year). This was the very first episode of the podcast, recorded back in February 2024, so thanks to Hamish for christening the ship with me. All parts loose, fun, deep and profound, this conversation really runs the full gamut.

This week is a solo episode and I'm discussing Fake Tales of San Francisco by Arctic Monkeys and in doing so, telling a story about moving to Canberra at the age of 16, my first musical perfomances at Dickson College with my pals Andy and Matt, and how listening to this song influenced a 29 year old me into getting stuck back into making some music after a little hiatus.

Whilst we don't get into Kevin's mixtape in this episode we do cover playing sober vs keeping it whiskey fresh, where songwriting starts and why Kevin usually leans towards rhythm first, the influence of visuals and cinema on his music, the sworn duty of older siblings to indoctrinate younger siblings into having a good music taste and a whole lot more.
