    On the latest episode of Repeating History, our guest is Douglas R. Egerton, Professor of History at Le Moyne College. Bob and Doug discuss a host of topics related to Professor Egerton's prolific scholarship. The conversation begins around Rev. Thomas W. Higginson, the radical abolitionist Massachusetts Unitarian Minister, who is the subject of Egerton's latest book, "A Man on Fire: The Worlds of Thomas Wentworth Higginson," published by Oxford University Press in 2025. Using Higginson's extraordinary life as a vehicle, the conversation ranges from abolition, his relationship to key figures in the fight to end slavery, including William Lloyd Garrison, Frederick Douglass, John Brown, and Syracuse's own Rev. Jermain Loguen. They also discuss Egerton's award-winning book, "Thunder at the Gates: The Black Civil War Regiments That Redeemed America," published by Basic Books in 2016.
