Combining Chinese herbal medicine with Western reproductive medicine can significantly enhance fertility outcomes by integrating holistic and evidence-based approaches. Chinese herbs, tailored to an individual’s specific imbalances, aim to regulate hormonal levels, improve ovarian function, and enhance blood flow to reproductive organs, addressing root causes of infertility. When paired with Western techniques like in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intrauterine insemination (IUI), these herbs can improve egg quality, increase endometrial receptivity, and reduce stress, which often impacts conception. Clinical studies suggest that this integrative approach can boost pregnancy rates and reduce miscarriage risks, as the complementary strengths of both systems create a more supportive environment for conception and sustained pregnancy.

  • I’m Nancy, a 39-year-old woman who was never going to conceive until...

It all started about two and a half years ago when we decided to try for a baby naturally. I was 36 then, full of optimism. But month after month, nothing happened. After a year of trying, we went to a fertility specialist. The results were tough to hear: my follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) level was 21, and my anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) was a disheartening 0.12—both signs that my egg reserve was low. Tom’s tests weren’t much better. He had a low sperm count, poor motility, and sperm DNA fragmentation. The doctor was kind but blunt: our chances of conceiving naturally were slim.

  • Improving IVF Outcomes.

Acupuncture may improve IVF outcomes by enhancing physiological and psychological factors critical to fertility. The practice involves the stimulation of blood flow, the regulation of hormones, and the reduction of stress. Increased uterine blood flow can improve endometrial thickness, creating a more favorable environment for embryo implantation. Acupuncture may also balance reproductive hormones like FSH and LH, supporting ovarian function and egg quality. Additionally, it promotes relaxation by lowering cortisol levels, which can otherwise disrupt the delicate hormonal interplay needed for successful IVF. Studies suggest that acupuncture, particularly when administered before and after embryo transfer, is associated with higher pregnancy rates, likely due to these combined effects.
