In this weeks episode I bring you the interview I did with Susannah Juteau

Susannah Juteau, MSc, CLT, RD, is a registered dietitian who specializes in headache and migraine nutrition for women. She has a bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience and a Master’s in Nutrition and Dietetics from McGill so she definitely is the person to listen to!

    We are talking about many things;

The difference between headaches and migraines.
How a migraine is MUCH more than
How common post-partum migraines really are (MUCH more common than you might think)
Why "15 minutes sitting in the dark" really isn't the solution.
The impact of diet on migraines.
What to eat to help prevent migraines.

    And much, MUCH more.

  • What kind of training can, and can't, you do when you're pregnant?
    Jun 29 2025

    Send us a text

This week I talk about the types of sports, exercise, and training you can and can't do whe you're pregnant.

This on the back of someone asking me if Olympic Lifting is a good sport to get in to.

The do's and don'ts of exercise during pregnancy usually get massively exaggerated. As always, it isn't really rocketscience.

I am talking about this and going through all levels; whether you're already training or not. What to do if you're an athlete, how to adapt your training to still keep improving during pregnancy.

And, of course, for people new to exercise who just want to have a healthier pregnancy, labour and postpartum period.

I'm covering all the bases so enjoy!!

None of this "pay X amount a year" nonsense, once you've paid..you've paid!

This makes HPNB not just the most efficient and complete post-partum recovery program, it's also BY FAR the best value.

  • Maximise your social impact (in a shitty world) interview with Philantrophy expert Sharon Schneider
    Jun 22 2025

    Send us a text

Let's be honest, it's a troubling world we live in these days and things can feel a bit overwhelming. How on earth do you make the world a bit better? Where do you even start?

A few years ago I did an interview with Sharon Schneider and this interview has shaped a lot of the things I do in my life, and changed the path for HPNB as well. So today, I bring you this interview again. It's a very old one so you'll have to forgive the sound quality a little bit, but it's a really good one.

    Enjoy

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Have you ever questioned whether your day to day actions align with your values?
Do you give to charity but wonder if there's more you can do to have a positive impact in the world? Not by giving money but by making those small changes in your life that will have an overwhelmingly positive impact, much more so than donating some money here and there,

Are you keen to teach your children just how they can make the world a genuinely better place?

Well then you are in luck!
This week I have the absolute pleasure of talking to Sharon Schneider. And I don't mind telling you this is one of the most powerful talks I've had over the past few years.

Sharon is an entrepreneur, a philanthropy expert, an impact investor, and a strategist who advises socially conscious founders and family offices. She has overseen more than $1.5 billion in philanthropic capital deployed through grants, impact investments, advocacy
efforts, and business operations from some of the world’s most prominent families, including members of the Giving Pledge, the Forbes 400 wealthiest individuals, top-ten US private foundations, and others.

In other words, Sharon is the person to speak to about this sort of thing. Her insight is phenomenal and the ideas she brings to the table will, no doubt, have you inspired to make some small changes that will have a HUGE impact in the world around you.

Sharon's book "Handbook for an integrated life" is available now

You can find Sharon on Twitter, where all the cool kids hang out.

In the news this week; This interesting study from the Max Planck Institute in Germany that found that a 1 hour walk in nature has a causal effect when it comes to destressing the brain.

  • Should an athlete's postpartum program be sport specific?
    Jun 15 2025

    Send us a text

After last week's new episode here's a classic (which sounds rather self important tbh)

    I had a wonderful email from someone who said the following;

    Hi Pete,

Long time no see, I hope you’re well.

As you probably know I gave birth again a few months ago and am working with a team on my recovery.

We’ve only really just started so I’m very early on. My physio is (name removed) ,obviously I’ve known him for years, but my women’s health physio is someone Iv’e never dealt with before (and neither has anyone else I know in (name of sport removed)) and she said something that stuck with me and made me think…ermm…I’ll ask Pete about that.

She said that my post-partum recovery program should be specific to (sport removed). And yes going back to playing is absolutely key but, how is the program sport specific? when I asked her to clarify she said that another sport’s program is completely different postpartum than ours is and she was a bit short after that so I left it.

    Any thoughts?

So that is what I'm discussing today.
I go through my reasoning and explain the way I work, with both athletes and non-athletes.

Is it different if you're a tennis or football player? What about for judokas and shotputters?

BTW this episode is not just for professional athletes, it VERY much also goes for "normal" people who just want to go back to doing what they love to do.

  • How long does postpartum recovery take without help? And, follow the RIGHT science communicators!
    Jun 8 2025

    Send us a text

This week I, once again, briefly touch on how long it takes to recover postpartum. This after a question from someone who asked "how long it would take to recover if you didn't do anything vs following a program".

It's a fascinating question tbh and it kind of all depends on what you mean with "post partum recovery".

I explain why I believe everyone needs a bit of assistance with their recovery and what the best methods, in order of effectiveness, are.

I then talk for a while about the importance of following the right science communicators.

A great post by Dr Colenso Semple on threads (my preferred platform) shows that just citing a paper, and even reading a paper, is not enough. In this case she highlights that one of the studies referenced in the paper was now retracted and written by someone who had falsified data.

This shows you just how important it is to follow the right science communicators. I personally follow several and they are all experts in their related fields. Getting ALL your science info from one source (for instance Huberman) leaves you open to "the grift" and if people don't really know what they're talking about/citing then it's very easy to misinterpret a piece of information. (As I highlight by talking about another post with regards to Artificial Sweeteners and increased bodyfat %)

Here is the link to that paper and here is the reference I talk about which shows why you really have to read these things carefully.

  • "Activate your deep core" and "How much protein do you need post partum?
    Jun 1 2025

    Send us a text

Today I talk about food and "the deep core"!!!

After being asked "Should I eat more protein postpartum?", which is an awesome question, we discuss that.

I talkabout how to set your plate up if you're looking to eat healthy.
Where should you start? Which macros matter.... How much protein is enough and is protein the be-and-end-all?

Then I talk about "deep core activation". You hear this a LOT from postpartum coaches.

I explain I don't tend to use the phrase "deep core" but talk you through how the core actually works.
How can you make sure it works properly and what the best way to ensure your core recovers as fast as it can postpartum.

  • Diastasis; The Depth of the gap is more important? And "Does diastasis cause digestive issues?" again
    May 25 2025

    Send us a text

    On this week's episode

"The depth of the gap is more important than the width!" is a common phrase you hear these days from "diastasis recti professionals" but is it actually true?

Can diastasis recti cause digestive issues? One "diastasis specialist" claims it could "because muscles aren't working properly and you need muscles to move food through the digestive tract". Let's talk about this a bit because a LOT of women have digestive issues post-partum and, obviously, a lot have diastasis as well. But are they linked??

The importance of picking your goal and focusing ONLY on that. I talk about a client with a shoulder injury whom I started working with this week.

"In the news this week"; This from the Daily Mail (one of the go-to websites for people about health related news, which is a bit of a shame to be honest). A soup and shake diet to beat Type 2 Diabetes. A good idea? And, does it work because the diet is magic or is there something else going on?

  • Healing Your Own Trauma to Raise Healthier Children with Sari Rose Barron, LMFT
    May 18 2025

    Send us a text

This week I am delighted to be joined by Sari Rose Barron, LMFT, as we're talking postpartum mental health and how this feeds into parenting.

What happens when your four-year-old's tantrum suddenly has you responding exactly like your father did—despite promising yourself you'd never parent that way? Why do certain moments with your children trigger intense emotional reactions that seem disproportionate to the situation?

Sari explains how our childhood experiences shape our parenting in ways we often don't recognize. Sari brilliantly distinguishes between mood (our emotional states) and regulation (our ability to manage those states), explaining why even the most well-intentioned parents find themselves hijacked by unexpected triggers.

"Being a perfect parent actually fosters anxious attachment, not secure attachment," Sari explains, stating that moments of imperfection—followed by repair—are what truly build security in our relationships with our children. We discuss how trauma gets stored in the body and brain, creating automatic responses that feel beyond our control in heated parenting moments.

The conversation delves into practical approaches for healing, including EMDR therapy and other trauma-focused modalities that access the deeper, somatic aspects of our past experiences. Sari explains why traditional talk therapy sometimes doesn't reach the root causes of our reactivity, and how recognizing our own trauma responses (fight, flight, freeze, and fawn) can be transformative.

Whether you're navigating the intensity of the postpartum period or the challenges of raising teenagers, you'll gain powerful insights into breaking generational patterns and creating healthier relationships with your children. Listen now to understand why healing yourself might be the most important gift you can give your family.

    You can find Sari online;
