  • Tom Maher

    Tom Maher is an Australian Basketball coach. He started his career leading the Nunawading spectres ultimately taking them to 5 championships in the Women’s National Basketball League. He would go to win titles with Perth, Canberra and Bulleen making him the most successful coach in the league’s history.


    He has also led the Australian National team to their first ever Olympic medal, a bronze at the 1996 Olympics and then silver at the 2000 Games. He has also coached the national teams of New Zealand, China and Great Britain. In all he coached at 6 consecutive Olympic Games. He was also the first ever foreign coach in the WNBA and was inducted in the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2021.

  • Bernhard Peters

    Berhard Peters is a field Hockey Coach who started coaching youth teams in the early 1980’s. His career slowly built and he led German National Youth teams to European Chamionships. Then in 200 he took over the German National Mens side and led them to World Champinshiops in in 2002 and 2006.


    He then transitioned into off field leadership roles in soccer, starting with Hoffenheim in the third tier of German soccer. He was part of the transformation of that club which took them all the way to the top German league in 2008.


    He hads gone on to build a successful career helping clubs transform themselves into high performing organisations, most recently with the start up club St Louis FC in the American Major League.

    Today’s episode is focuses on the topic of Winning Team Cultures, and to explore the topic I am joined by 2 great coaches.


    The first is Mike Dunlap. Mike is a basketball coach who has led teams in US Colleges, the NBA and in Australia. He started as a College Assistant in 1980 before becoming the Head Coach of Cal Lutheran in 1989. In 1994 he moved to Australia and led the Adelaide 36ers in the |National League before returning to the USA in 1997 to lead Metro State. That team went on to win National Championships in 2000 and 2002.


    In 2006, he went to the NBA for the first time as an Assistant at Denver, and then in 2011, he was chosen by Michal Jordan to lead the Charlotte Bobcats in the NBA.

    Then in 2020, Mike returned to the NBA as an Assistant Coach with Milwaukee Bucks and was with them then they defeated the Phoenix Suns to win their first NBA Championship in 2021.


    And my 2nd guest is Gareth Taylor.


    Gareth played as a professional football player for 18 seasons. He retired in 2011 and started coaching youth teams at Manchester City. After 8 years in the City Academy, he was appointed Head Coach of the Women’s team and led them to a FA Cup title in 2020 and the League Cup title in 2022.
