May 22, 2025: Today’s the finale of our Big Ten Recap where we talk about the top of the standings of the Big Ten. We review Purdue, Wisconsin, UCLA, Michigan, and Maryland. As we all know, MSU lapped the field in the Big Ten this year but the top was in doubt as teams like back to back champ Purdue showed signs of competing at the top and Wisconsin had a very surprising run exceeding most analysts’ expectations largely on the back of John Tonje.

For MSU fans, Michigan was an extremely frustrating team that despite their poor metrics and negative point differential found a way to win virtually every close game and even the Big Ten Tournament and even made the Sweet 16 after a colossally bad prior year. First year coach Dusty May may have shown his true colors in the dust up at the Breslin with his game ending logo defense.

Although it’s not surprising to see coaching departures, Kevin Willard leaving Maryland for Villanova certainly wasn’t on our bingo cards. Apparently, behind the scenes problems with the athletic department bubbled up and he took off after easily his most successful season with the Terps.

May 15, 2025: Part two of our Big Ten Recap is here where we talk about the middle of the pack of the Big Ten. We review Minnesota, Rutgers, Ohio State, Indiana, Oregon, and Illinois. There was turmoil in this group with two coaching changes: Ben Johnson getting fired at Minnesota and Mike Woodson being encouraged to retire at Indiana. Rutgers had two top 5 Freshman but were unable to put any viable pieces around them and finished well out of the NCAA bubble conversation.

Meanwhile, Ohio State continued its trend of doing less with more even with first year coach Jake Diebler. Finally, Illinois continued to offer us a season long punch line as the team with the highest ceiling in the country and apparently the lowest floor. Coach Underwood has failed to disappoint us with material.

May 8, 2025: Today marks the first of our three part series recapping the season for the Big Ten’s teams. We begin our tour with Washington and then continue through Penn State, Nebraska, Iowa, USC, and finish with Northwestern.

The group of teams included some interesting storylines with first year coaches Danny Sprinkle from Washington and Eric Musselman at USC. Also, Jase Richardson has declared for the draft but has yet to hire an NBA agent which means that he could still return for his Sophomore year. This seems very unlikely to us but so long as there is a chance there’s a chance. Could Jase be considering a return to East Lansing?

April 16, 2025: Michigan State continues to expand its roster and just as we expected, they looked to add another guard. Well, in comes Trey Fort, a 6’4” SG from Samford who averaged 41% from 3 this year and has one year left in eligibility. Although he isn’t a primary ball handler, he should help in MSU’s backcourt.

The probable addition of Fort brings up the next obvious question - who’s next for MSU? We discuss the positional needs the Spartans will still have for next season. We also spent some time discussing Tre Holloman’s situation and how he ended up at NC State and how it may have been a very unfortunate decision for him though we aren’t upset with his decision.

April 11, 2025: With the departure of MSU’s seniors, graduate students, and Jase Richardson to the NBA, there was an obvious need for bodies to complete next year’s roster. So Tom Izzo and the Spartans went into the portal and signed 6’7” 220# Kaleb Glenn from FAU.

Glenn was a former teammate of Jeremy Fears in AAU and for a year at LaLumiere in Indiana. He comes ia Louisville and then FAU where last season he received AAC 2nd team honors coming off the bench and averaging 51% from the field, 41% from 3 and a little over 4.5 rebounds a game. We don’t expect him to be the last addition but certainly a needed shooting piece heading into next season.

April 5, 2025: We have officially entered portal season for most of the country and it is more active than ever. For Michigan State, fans got their first taste of a player whom they love entering the portal - Tre Holloman. A player who seems to embody Tom Izzo and the program, Holloman entered the portal April 1st but (as of this programming) not yet committed to another program.

Xavier Booker has left and is headed to UCLA in a move that is easy to understand. It seemed to us that he just needed a restart because it just hadn’t worked out in East Lansing. Gehrig Normand has entered the portal and has just become the odd man out with an unknown destination at this point.

Finally, the big discussion on player movements right now is the future of Jase Richardson. Will he enter the NBA draft or will he return for another season and chase a Final Four and national championship? Our opinion is that no one knows except Jase. And he will tell us as soon as he has figured that out himself.
