Hey all, we're here for one reason - to talk about movies. And to entertain you - erm.. ok, so I guess that's two reasons. This is a movie podcast where we discuss movies that have been remade or rebooted. The Deja Review combines chatting about both the original and the remake of the movie, giving behind the scenes facts and info or just our opinions on what worked and what didn't. Hosted by two long-time friends Mart & Trev. Welcome to The Deja Review. Follow us on Instagram, BlueSky and Facebook @thedejareview or contact us direct at thedejareview@gmail.comMart and Trev Arte

  • Going in Style: Grandpas Gone Wild (Bank Edition)
    Jun 7 2025

Welcome to "Going in Style: Grandpas Gone Wild (Bank Edition)"This episode, Mart and Trev are dusting off their best cardigans and reviewing Going in Style, the tale of three old boys who decide to rob a bank—because, apparently, “retirement” isn’t as exciting as it’s cracked up to be. First, we take a look at the 1979 version with George Burns, Art Carney, and Lee Strasberg, whose heist strategy is basically “wing it and hope for the best.” Then, we fast forward to the 2017 remake, starring the iconic Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, and Alan Arkin, (aka the Avengers of senior citizen films) where the pensioners still don’t have a clue, but now they’ve got Smartphones and Google Maps to help... sort of.

  • Ransom! 1956 vs. Ransom! 1996: Kidnapping, Crime, and How to Keep Your Cool When Your Kid’s Stuck in a Van
    May 24 2025

Welcome to "Ransom! 1956 vs. Ransom! 1996: Kidnapping, Crime, and How to Keep Your Cool When Your Kid’s Stuck in a Van"

This episode, Mart and Trev are getting all nostalgic and diving into a classic vs. remake showdown with Ransom! —first the 1956 version, where the only thing more thrilling than the kidnap is the 1950s fashion, then the 1996 remake, where Mel Gibson decides that “tension” means yelling at everyone within a 20-mile radius. That’s right, folks — Ransom! isn’t just a movie about getting your kid back. It’s about finding out how many different ways you can scream the word “kidnapped” without ruining your voice.

This week, Mart and Trev are tackling the two versions of Ransom!: the cool-as-a-cucumber 1956 classic starring Glenn Ford, and the 1996 remake starring Mel Gibson, who... well, let’s just say his strategy involves a lot of yelling. That’s right—one dad is a master of calm, methodical thinking, and the other is basically the human embodiment of an emotional rollercoaster. Who will win?

Spoiler alert: It’s not going to be the guy who’s trying to have a quiet conversation.
