The hotel staff moved through the building like automatons—expressionless, never greeting guests, staring straight ahead as if not fully present in reality.

Theresa repeatedly spotted a mysterious older man with a bandage over his eye walking back and forth outside the hotel, but strangely, Melissa never saw him despite being right there.
