In dieser Folge bespreche ich ein Thema, das im Internet und auf Social Media für gehörig Emotionen sorgen kann und bisweilen gar zu Auseinandersetzungen in den Kommentarspalten führt. Ein Thema, das Hundemenschen manchmal mit Fragezeichen zurücklässt und verunsichern kann. Denn es gibt zig Ratgeber dazu, unzählige Meinungen, Aussagen und Mythen.

Die Ernährung von Hunden.

Dabei ist die Ernährung unserer Hunden nicht nur wichtig, sondern bisweilen gar komplex: Was ist eine gesunde Ernährungsform für meinen Hund - BARF, Trocken- oder Nassfutter oder selbst hergestelltes Futter? Wie viel Protein braucht mein Hund eigentlich? Und: Kann ich meinen Hund auch vegetarisch oder vegan ernähren?

Um diese Fragen zu beantworten, habe ich eine Expertin eingeladen: Dr. med. vet. Stefanie Handl. Stefanie ist Fachtierärztin für Tierernährung und Diätetik und Co-Autorin des Buches "Hundefutter - bedarfsorientiert füttern" und beantwortet in dieser Folge all die Fragen, die man sich über die Ernährung unserer Hunde so stellen kann.

Die Grenzen zwischen Psychologie und Hundetraining verschwimmen immer mehr: Wir verwenden die Lerntheorie, sprechen von Emotionen und Kognition und die Psyche des Hundes rückt immer mehr in den Fokus. Deshalb spreche ich in dieser Folge von Rund um Hund mit Véronique Mann darüber, ob wir die Humanpsychologie einfach so auf unsere Hunde übertragen können, wie Psychologie das Hundetraining beeinflusst und welche Mythen und Behauptungen bezüglich Psychologie im Hundetraining rumgeistern, die zumindest zu hinterfragen sind. Véro ist nicht nur in Ausbildung zur Hundetrainerin, sondern auch zur Psychotherapeutin und hat ihren Masterabschluss am Max-Planck-Institut für Geoanthropologie gemacht.

Deshalb spricht Véro auch über ihre Masterarbeit "Eyes or nose: Domestic dogs (Canis familiaris) prefer vision over olfaction when searching for Food", was dabei untersucht wurde und was Véro bei dieser Studie über Hunde herausgefunden hat.

Kein anderes Thema kann zu so grossen Konflikten in der Nachbarschaft führen wie das Bellen der Hunde. In dieser Folge von Rund um Hund spreche ich deshalb darüber, was bellen überhaupt ist, welche Funktionen es für Hunde einnimmt, warum die Melodie des Bellens für uns Hundemenschen durchaus eine grosse Wichtigkeit hat und welche Kategorien von Bellen es überhaupt gibt. Ferner versuche ich die Frage zu beantworten, wann ein Hund zu viel bellt und erzähle, wie man das Bellen eines Hundes trainieren kann.

Im 2. Hunde-Update des Jahres 2025 stelle ich wiederum einige aktuelle Studien aus der Welt der Hunde vor. Diesmal etwa, ob Hunde weniger Frust zeigen, wenn ihr Mensch mit dabei ist oder nicht, ob Hunde die Perspektive eines Menschen einnehmen können und entsprechend handeln sowie ob die das Zuchtziel einer Hunderasse - in diesem Fall bezogen auf die Fähigkeit als Such- und Spürhund - tatsächlich Einfluss auf die Leistung bei olfaktorischen Tasks hat. Zudem stelle ich noch eine spannende Arbeit vor, die sich damit befasst hat, ob Hundetraining wirklich generell die Selbstkontrolle (Impulskontrolle sowie Frustrationstoleranz) von Hunden erhöht.
