🧠 Mutant Hollow: A Microbiology Podcast for the Morbidly Curious

Welcome to Mutant Hollow, where real science gets weird. Each season, we crack open the vaults of microbiology, parasitology, and speculative evolution to explore how terrifying creatures and viral nightmares from fiction might not be so fictional after all.

Season One dives straight into the grave with “Will It Zombie?”, where we investigate real-life pathogens—like brain-eating amoebas, rabies, cordyceps fungus, and rogue prions—and ask the ultimate question: Could this actually cause a zombie outbreak?

But we don’t stop at zombies.

Future seasons will unearth the biology behind cryptids, the science hiding inside horror and sci-fi films, and the evolutionary plausibility of your favorite monsters. From vampire bat genetics to alien reproduction theory, nothing is too bizarre to break down with actual science (and a little gallows humor).

Hosted by microbiologist Amber and her co-host Dr. Stacy—our resident “creature doctor”—Mutant Hollow blends research, storytelling, satire, and just enough panic to keep things interesting.

Tune in, freak out, and don’t forget to vote… WILL. IT. ZOMBIE?

Welcome to the very first episode of Mutant Hollow, where microbiology meets mayhem. In this premiere, we dig into the real science behind the infamous zombie fungus—Cordyceps.

Amber and Dr. Stacy (our resident “creature doctor”) explore how this mind-controlling parasite hijacks insects in the real world… and whether it could ever leap into humans. From spore warfare to body-snatching behavior, we trace the terrifying line between fact and freaky fiction.

💀 Could Cordyceps mutate to infect people?

🦠 What makes it so creepy to scientists?

    🧟‍♀️ Will. It. Zombie?

Plus: a brief romp through folklore, some speculative science, and the launch of our listener poll: WILL IT ZOMBIE?
