Tired of the clichés, theatrics and fluffy talk surrounding mediumship? Medium Rare cuts through the noise and serves up the real deal. Whether you're a beginner, seasoned practitioner or complete sceptic, this podcast is for everyone ready to dig deeper.

Artificial hosts Claire and Duncan take you back in time to explore rare books, forgotten writings and authentic voices of history's most compelling mediums. From Victorian séance rooms to obscure 20th-century practitioners you've probably never heard of, they uncover raw, unfiltered accounts that shaped spiritualism before it became commercialised.

Created by Spiritual Medium and Human Design Guide Cameran Quinn, each episode features meticulous research into long-lost books, archived papers, ancient scrolls and forgotten publications. Cameran unearths these original resources, then Artifical hosts Claire and Duncan break them down, letting the historical mediums speak for themselves through their own words.

Discover what people actually believed and practised and what they didn't. No interpretation, no modern spin, just the authentic experiences and methods that built the foundation of the spiritualist movement. See how mediumship was genuinely different back then, explore what practitioners actually experienced, and make up your own mind about what it all means.

Some were brilliant pioneers, others controversial figures, but all offer something far more substantial than today's sanitised versions.

Medium Rare delivers the authentic past of talking to the dead: bloody honest, historically grounded and refreshingly real.

  • Mrs. Mayer & the Slates: Spirit Messages from 1901
    Jul 4 2025

In this week’s episode of Medium Rare, your spectral sleuths Claire and Duncan dust off the pages of a rare and long-forgotten gem: Spirit Messages (1901). Journey with us as we dive into the life and legacy of Mrs. Mayer, a powerful slate-writing medium who made waves in New York City’s spiritualist circles at the turn of the 20th century.

Renowned by professor Hiram Corson as "the most powerful of the slate-writing kind" he'd encountered, Mrs. Mayer played a pivotal role in forming spiritual connections most notably bringing together Corson's wife, Caroline Rollin Corson and the Spirit Band. Her mediumship would later inspire Corson’s housekeeper, Matilda Sjoegren, to explore her own psychic gifts, eventually becoming Corson's primary medium.

But Mrs. Mayer’s influence didn’t end there. We also trace her earlier spiritual communications involving Dr. Valentine Mott and his wife, channeled through other mediums years later. Though she has since passed to the spirit world, her legacy continues to echo through the pages of spiritualist history.

🔍 Join us as we unravel slate-writing secrets, examine 1901 séance society and explore how one woman’s psychic work shaped the lives of those around her and maybe even beyond the veil.
