The Project Censored Show is a weekly public affairs program that airs Fridays from 1-2 P.M. Pacific time on KPFA Pacifica Radio. The program is an extension of the work Project Censored began in 1976 celebrating independent journalism while fighting media censorship and supporting a truly free press. The program focuses on The News That Didn’t Make the News. Each week, co-hosts Mickey Huff and Peter Phillips conduct in depth interviews with their guests and offer hard hitting commentary on the key political, social, and economic issues of the day with an emphasis on critical media literacy.     Mickey Huff and Eleanor Goldfield co-host this week’s program. In the first half-hour, Mickey speaks with Jeff Cohen about the life and achievements of the late Bill Moyers (1934-2025), taking special notice of Moyers’ sometimes behind-the-scenes support of independent media. Then Mickey and Eleanor share their thoughts on some recent news that wasn’t covered, or not fully covered, by corporate media, including the massive toll that Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” will exact on low-income Americans, the Heritage Foundation’s sinister Project Esther, and other stories. Jeff Cohen is the founder of the media-watch group Fairness& Accuracy in Reporting (www.FAIR.org), as well as the founding director of the Park Center for Independent Media.     Eleanor Goldfield hosts this week’s Project Censored Show. In the first segment, Eleanor’s guest contends that overuse of social-media delivers not only diminished attention spans, but also a diminished ability to understand other people, and thus greater intolerance to people perceived as “different.” Then, in the second half of the program, what do federal actions such as the arrest and jailing of Mahmoud Khalil demonstrate about the difficulties of actually enforcing an individual’s constitutional rights? Dr. Samaiya Mushtaq is a psychiatrist and writer based in Texas . She has a Substack channel called “the Middle Path.” Chip Gibbons is Policy Director at Defending Rights and Dissent (www.rightsanddissent.org), and is working on a book about FBI surveillance.   • The 2025 “Izzy” Awards

    Eleanor Goldfield hosts this week’s program, which consists of audio excerpts from the 2025 “Izzy” Awards. Named after the famous muckraking reporter / publisher I.F. “Izzy” Stone, the annual awards honor outstanding work in independent journalism. More information on the award recipients can be found at www.parkindymedia.org/izzy-award-2025. Mickey Huff hosted the awards ceremony, which took place this past spring at Ithaca College. In this Project Censored Show, we hear the words of some of the award recipients, award judges, guest presenters, and other allies of independent media. Victor Pickard teaches media studies at the University of Pennsylvania Jeff Cohen is the founder of the Park Center for Independent Media. Maya Schenwar and Lara Witt are the cofounders of the Movement Media Alliance. Michael Stoll is executive director of the San Francisco Public Press. Steve Mellon is a reporter with the Pittsburgh Union Progress. Robin Andersen is professor emerita of communications at Fordham University. Mohammed Mhawish is an independent journalist who covers his native Gaza; his work has been published in the Nation, and elsewhere. The News That Didn’t Make the News.
