Acerca de esta escucha
Welcome to The Hip Replacement Podcast – a show for hip replacement patients by a hip replacement patient.
In this Episode, I shared how I returned to a favorite activity. For me, the activity was golf but it doesn’t matter what the activity is. Look for ways to modify, if necessary, in order to get back to that activity. Being active and healthy are key to maintaining our hips and living our best lives after surgery.
I returned to Golf with the following modifications:
- Don’t rush back. Make sure the healing process has time
- I don’t carry my bag when I walk anymore. I use a push/pull cart
- Slightly open my front foot. This allows me to torque my hip without causing discomfort
I also returned to Running with these modifications:
- Soft shoes for running
- Landing on the balls of my feet rather than my heels
- Shorter strides
- Running on softer surfaces like grass, dirt or gravel and avoiding surfaces like concrete
- Alternating between running and walking. There’s no requirement in any event to run the entire distance. If you can cover the distance in the allowed time, use whatever method you desire.
Consider alternative activities that are less impactful to your hips. The important thing is to return to a good level of activity. You may meet new people, get healthier and discover an unknown passion.
