RethinkDB was a visionary database designed to push real-time updates directly to applications, eliminating the outdated polling method that kept users constantly refreshing for new data. Founded in 2009 by Michael Glukhovsky and Slava Akhmechet, the project aimed to reinvent how databases functioned, particularly in an era of rapidly growing data demands and emerging technologies like solid-state drives.
