  • S4 Ep7 Water News (Sinking Cities and Clouds)
    May 25 2025

In this episode, Tom and Joe will discuss some recent water news.

The first of two subjects will be a conversation of a study that focused on the top cities in the US that are sinking, primarily due to groundwater extraction.

The second topic will focus on the underestimation of global warming due to a misunderstanding of the warming of the atmosphere due to an increase in water vapor in clouds.

    Stay tuned!

  • S4 Ep6: Colorado River Salinity Control Project
    May 25 2025

This episode will feature Mr. Robert Strand. Tom and Joe both worked with Bob Strand for several years. Bob headed up the Sedimentation Section in the Water Resources Division of the Bureau of Reclamation in Denver, CO. Bob has worked all over the world on various projects involving sedimentation, including the Elwha River dam removal.

Today the focus of the conversation will be on the Colorado River Salinity Control Project which Bob worked on in the very early years of the program. This will be a fascinating discussion of the program, its purpose, its components, and history. This is a very complex project that most people may have never heard of - it is a great example of the complexity of managing water resources in the western US.

Programming note: This episode's posting was delayed - the first attempt did not "take" on the website. Thus the next episode (episode 7) will be posted on the heels of this broadcast.

    Mar 3 2025

This episode will feature Tom Bellinger and Joe Lyons discussing a new technology being used around the world to map groundwater aquifers. This innovative geophysical method has been employed By Mr. Paul Ivancie and his colleagues to study the extent and composition of aquifers, which are a geologic media that hold water. It can be employed for example, to map salinity zones due to ocean rise and aquifer characteristics.

Paul will explain the system, its uses and the technology behind it.
