On this episode of Finding Your Bliss, Celebrity Interviewer and Bliss Coach Judy Librach is joined by Honey Jam Founder and visionary and now member of the Order Of Canada Ebonnie Rowe, as well as legendary and acclaimed celebrity Vocal Coach, Elaine Overholt. Throughout her career, Ebonnie Rowe has been dedicated to the growth of others and the support of causes with a positive community impact. Born in Montreal and raised mostly in Toronto, both of her Barbadian parents had a commitment to voluntarism and involvement in the community and raised the family in that tradition of service and helping others. While studying at the University of Toronto, a friend of hers died suddenly. The loss was devastating; it made her realize the shortness of life, and the silent despair suffered by many. This fueled her need to do something that meant something, and to leave a significant legacy. Determined to have a constructive influence on the lives of others, she went on to volunteer with many organizations that cater to some of society’s overlooked groups, eventually founding a mentorship program - “Each One Teach One”, which matched black youth with Black professionals, the idea being that the youth needed to see themselves succeeding in places that they aspired to be, in order to combat the negative stereotypes they were seeing of Black people portrayed in the media. She also started PhemPhat Entertainment Group, a dynamic, non-profit company that provides promotional, mentoring, networking, educational and performance opportunities for emerging female Artists. Ebonnie is the producer of the Honey Jam concert and artist development programme for young female artists from across Canada, of all cultures and musical genres. Artists such as Grammy Award winners Nelly Furtado and Melanie Fiona, along with Juno winners Kellylee Evans, Jully Black, Haviah Mighty, LU KALA and many others, performed early in their careers. Rowe has organized impactful experiences for the artists such as songwriting camps, industry workshops, mentor cafe's, tickets to major artist concerts, opportunities to attend the Polaris, Juno and Grammy Awards, and sessions to learn from major artists such as Jessie Reyez, Serena Ryder, Deborah Cox, Marsha Ambrosius, Destiny's Child original member LeToya Luckett, Elle Varner, Erykah Badu, Janelle Monae and more. The programme creates a welcoming, supportive sisterhood and a safe space to be vulnerable, to learn, to build self esteem and long-lasting relationships. It is for her a total passion project. Featured in the book “Canada 150 Women - Conversations with Leaders, Champions & Luminaries”, listed in the Who’s Who of Canadian Women, Ebonnie was also featured in TD Bank’s Canada-Wide Black History Month promotion in their branches featuring the initiatives they support led by members of the Black community. She was selected as one of 1000 women photographed by Parisian photographer Pierre Maraval for an exhibit co-produced by Luminato and L’Oreal Paris. Titled “Mille Femmes”, it captured inspirational women who embody the passion and heritage behind Toronto's artistic community. And when Michelle Obama spoke at the Conscious Economics event sponsored by the Economic Club of Canada, she was chosen by the How She Hustles Women’s Network as part of a group lauded for their impactful work, benefitting women and girls to be a specially invited guest. Ebonnie’s work with has earned her many awards and nominations, including: 2025, Member Of The Order Of Canada, awarded on April 17th, 2025 2025 Women in Music Canada Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2024 Billboard Canada Inaugural Women in Music Awards Industry Honouree Nomination for Women in Music Canada Honours category Excellence in Live Music Ontario Black History Society’s inaugural Cultural Leadership Award Trailblazer Award from the Canadian Independent Music Association Roy Thompson Award of Recognition 100 Accomplished Black Canadian Women Recognition Ont ...

  • Matt Bobkin and Deb Weir
    Jun 14 2025
On this episode of Finding Your Bliss, Celebrity Interviewer and Bliss Coach Judy Librach is joined by author Matt Bobkin! Matt Bobkin is a Toronto-based arts journalist and music critic. Most of his work uses music as a lens to explore global issues such as identity, gender, disability, and gentrification. Matt was the Features Editor at Canadian music magazine Exclaim! from 2016 to 2022, and his work has also appeared in the National Post, VICE, and Brooklyn Magazine. His first book, In Too Deep: When Canadian Punks Took Over the World, co-written with fellow Toronto-based music critic Adam Feibel, was just released this June 2025 via House of Anansi Press. Also on the program, we have dancer/choreographer and Founder of Boogie Babies, Deb Weir! Deb has been dancing since the age of four and hasn’t stopped moving since. She started teaching dance at just 14, and continued sharing her love of movement throughout high school and university. Over the years, she’s taken on a variety of roles in the performing arts world—from choreographing and performing in eight productions with the Unsung Heroes troupe, to creating dances for CHAT productions, to working with the Chicken Coop Theatre Company, where she led the kids’ division for five years. In addition to her dance background, Deb holds an Honours Degree in Kinesiology from Western University (2001) and a degree in Occupational Therapy from Queen’s University (2005). She brings this strong foundation in anatomy, movement, and body mechanics into every class she teaches—always with a focus on helping others feel capable, strong, and supported. During her university years, she volunteered in lactation clinics, NICUs, and maternity wards, helping new mothers navigate their journeys with confidence and support. When Deb became a mom (she now has two teenagers and three step-kids in their 20s), she taught mom-and-baby dance classes during both of her maternity leaves—and absolutely loved it. That experience eventually sparked the creation of Boogie Babies, a dance-based fitness program for parents and their little ones. Through Boogie Babies, Deb combines her passion for dance, her knowledge of movement, and her deep belief in the power of community to help parents connect, get moving, and have fun with their babies.
