On October 17, Jennifer made a final call from a Shell gas station in Deming, New Mexico, expressing concerns about traveling alone into Mexico and mentioning a change in plans to visit a friend in Minnesota. She promised to call back with more details but was never heard from again. Nearly a year later, some of Jennifer's belongings—including her camping gear and journal—were discovered under a tarp in a remote area between Hatch and Deming, New Mexico. Her bicycle was never found, and no conclusive evidence has surfaced to explain her disappearance.
