Closing the 18-Inch Gap Podcast-EP065: Today's Episode: Turning Setbacks into Comebacks!

Setbacks are inevitable if you going to achieve your dreams. But what if I told you that every setback could actually be a setup for a major comeback? In this episode, I’m going to walk you through a powerful acronym—S.E.T.B.A.C.K.S.—that will help you shift your perspective, regain control, and stay on track with your dreams. You can and will need to know how to come back for many of these if you’re going to complete anything that you set yourself to do in life.

Quote of the week: "The comeback is always stronger than the setback. When things don't go your way or as planned, work twice as hard and prove to yourself that you can do anything." Brian Tracy

    Points covered:

S – Shift your mindset Setbacks aren’t the end—they're redirections. The first step is to change how you interpret them. Instead of 'Why is this happening to me?', try asking, 'How is this happening for me? This is where it all starts, with the mindset.

    E – Embrace the lesson
Every challenge holds a message. Pause and ask yourself: 'What am I meant to learn here? Growth often wears the disguise of failure. What if the delay is actually the blessing?

    T – Take responsibility
It’s easy to point fingers. But the moment you take ownership, you take back power. Ask yourself: 'What can I do differently? This is where you want to avoid the blame game.

    B – Break it down
Big dreams can feel overwhelming, especially when they hit a wall. Break your goal into small, doable actions. Tiny steps still move you forward. Break your dream down.

A – Align with your ‘why’
When you hit resistance, reconnect to your deeper purpose. Why did you start this journey? Let your 'why' refuel your will.

    C – Cultivate resilience
Resilience isn’t just bouncing back—it’s bouncing forward. Build it through rest, reflection, and celebrating small wins.

    K – Keep moving
Motion creates momentum. Even if it’s messy, take that next step. Don’t wait for perfection—waiting isn’t part of progress, moving forward slowly is.

    S – Surround yourself wisely
The people around you matter. Are they pouring into your dream or poking holes in it? Find encouragers, not energy drainers.

“Every setback we covered today will shape part of your story.
Some will challenge you. Others will champion you.
But all of them—when understood—can and will shape you.
Your dream isn’t just possible. It’s waiting on the version of you who’s ready.
Until next time—keep daring, keep developing, and most of all, keep dreaming.”

  • Closing the 18-Inch Gap Podcast-EP064: Unlocking the dreamer’s path to success just for you!
    May 6 2025
Today’s episode was inspired by all things, a loan offer I received in the mail a few days ago. It reminded me of ways so many people can get caught up in the moment when they are trying to make their dreams come true. But first I want to remind you that I’m not only your host for today, I’m also your Dream Realization Partner, and today we’re diving into what I call The D-Factor—the powerful words starting with the letter D that can either derail your dreams or drive them forward. This episode is going to explore 20 of these words—10 that challenge us and 10 that empower us. Get ready for a deep dive that might just change how you see your dream—and yourself.” Quote of the week: “You'll know you're on the scent of a worthwhile, lasting ambition when the strong scent of a smoldering fire wouldn't dampen your resolve to build it twice even before you had built it for the first time.” ― Bob Goff, Dream Big: Know What You Want, Why You Want It, and What You’re Going to Do About It Points covered: “Let’s begin with the hard truth. These first 10 ‘D’ words often show up as resistance, fear, or emotional pain. But understanding them is the first step to transforming them.” Part 1: The Challengers · Doubt · Delay · Disillusionment · Despair · Detour · Defeat · Demotivation · Disappointment · Distractions · Delusions Part 2: The Builders “Now let’s move into the fuel—the empowering ‘D’ words that build momentum, maturity, and magic. These are the tools and traits every dreamer needs to cultivate.” · Determination · Discipline · Drive · Devotion · Dedication · Discovery · Direction · Decisiveness · Daring · Development “Every ‘D’ word we covered today tells a part of your story. Some will challenge you. Others will champion you. But all of them—when understood—can shape you. Your dream isn’t just possible. It’s waiting on the version of you who’s ready. Until next time—keep daring, keep developing, and most of all, keep dreaming.” Did anything resonate with you? Do you want to explore deeper how I can help you with this topic? • Closing the 18-Inch Gap Podcast-EP063: Unlock Your Dreams Today: Mindset Strategies To Move Forward!
    Apr 29 2025
"The Room Where Dreams Are Tested" Tonight, a room full of dreams was put to the test. Some dreams were celebrated with a phone call. Others were forced into silence. But here’s the truth they don’t show on TV: your dream is no less real just because it hasn’t been recognized yet. Success isn’t always about who gets called first. It's about who keeps calling on themselves after the world moves on. Your time is still coming. Stay dangerous. This week’s episode was inspired by the NFL draft. It involved a young man by the name of Shedeur Sanders who’s father is a wildly famous hall of fame football player and how his son was drafted very late in the NFL draft. He dropped more than any other player in the history of the draft to the 5th round and picked by a team that had passed him multiple times Quote of the week: And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. Galatians 6:9 Points covered: 1. Stepping into a new you 2. Your moment is coming even if it’s slower than you thought 3. Faith is required during the unknown 4. Dreams evolve 5. Being seen matters 6. Persistence pays 7. Drafted or not, the dream can still be alive 8. When the timing isn’t what you expected 9. When the world doesn’t match your self-belief 10. Having to stay patient longer than you thought 11. Public disappointment vs. private resolve 12. Dreams aren't always linear 13. Sometimes you're ready but the world isn’t 14. Falling doesn't mean failing 15. Dreams demand resilience after heartbreak. 16. When your dream has to go through a detour 17. When the "no" hurts but shapes you 18. The people who believe in you may not be the ones you expected 19. Being "undervalued" can be the greatest fuel to future greatness 20. Sometimes, the world makes you wait to see how bad you really want it 21. Your dream is bigger than one moment of success or disappointment 1. "Some dreams come true. Some take a little longer. Both are still yours." 2. "Draft night is proof: the wait doesn’t cancel the promise." 3. "The stage doesn’t define you. The story you write after does." Did anything resonate with you? • Closing the 18-Inch Gap Podcast-EP062: Keep Dreaming Big Even When The World Is Falling Apart!
    Apr 22 2025
Today as I record this episode, the world is in a bit of a chaos. Here in the US, planes are crashing at an alarming rate, the political scenario is rising to a level not seen in years, Pope Francis passed away just this morning, there are two major wars playing out at this moment and so much more. There is no shortage of chaos or distractions to go around. On top of that, you and I are navigating this complex journey called life! I will assure you that I will not be going into these subjects here in this podcast because this is not a platform where I want to discuss these matters. But they are present and can be hard to ignore. The challenge is how to navigate some of these issues while you still work on what matters most to you. Afterall, let’s be honest. The world will continue its path regardless of what you do or don’t do. So, you would have to ask yourself then, what can I control? Today I’ll be bringing 10 distractions that you will encounter and what to do about them. And don’t worry, not all of them are directly tied to what I have said so far, they go much broader as you will soon hear. Quote of the week: “Sometimes, when things are falling apart, they may actually be falling into place.” — Unknown Points covered: 10 distractions that will keep you from reaching your dreams: 1. • Closing the 18-Inch Gap Podcast-EP061: Build Confidence Today And Achieve Your Dreams!
    Apr 15 2025
If you’re going to achieve your dreams, confidence is a must. But how do you get it? How can you keep it once you have it? Confidence will ebb and flow, go up and down, some days you have more and other days you’ll have less. That’s normal. But it is true that you will need it to move forward. Confidence is a skill and the good thing about it is that it can be learned. So today we can look at how you can grow your confidence and keep moving forward making those dreams come true. As a dream realization partner, today I will be going over tips on how to do this. Which one resonates most with you? Quote of the week: "You have plenty of courage, I am sure," answered Oz. "All you need is confidence in yourself. There is no living thing that is not afraid when it faces danger. The true courage is in facing danger when you are afraid, and that kind of courage you have in plenty."― L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz Points covered: 1. The first tip is to be your own role model: be prouder yourself, live your values every day. 2. Express yourself: share what you think and feel with others. Unless you speak up no one will be able to hear you. Don’t drown the inner voice and you and bottle it up. 3. Challenge yourself: if you’ve been hearing me for a while you know I’ve said repeatedly to expand your comfort zone. In order to do this you have to stretch yourself, persevere above everything else and overcome obstacles. 4. Only your opinions about you matter! The truth is that what other people think about you is not your business. I have told my adult self that more times than I can possibly count. 5. No more negative self-talk: this ties into the previous point. When you pay attention to the negativity that others either say or you think they are saying is going to lead to negative self-talk. 6. Forgive your mistakes: does no such thing as failure, only learning. Failures if you never learn something from it. 7. You are awesome! You’re also only one-person, unique, once-in-a-lifetime creation! There will never be another you because you are only you and no one else can be like you. 8. Don’t waste energy comparing yourself to others: like I said in the past you looking someone else’s front stage as what they are performing. 9. Excellence not perfection: perfection is a myth because nothing is perfect. It never is and never will be. It’s a perception at best. And what you may seem to think is perfect is not perfect to someone else. 10. Don’t leave yourself behind: love yourself for who you are. All of you. The good and the not so good. Work on what you can work on and keep moving forward. 11. You have talents, discover them and use them: find what your strengths are in your talents and put them to use. Don’t try to do everything because if you do, you’ll achieve nothing. Did anything resonate with you? Do you want to explore deeper how I can help you with this topic? If so, reach out to me and let me know. Simply send me an email to edwin@edwinsoler.com and let me know what your question is and how we can connect. • Closing the 18-Inch Gap Podcast-EP060: Five Awareness Levels to Realize Your Dreams NOW!
    Apr 8 2025
In today’s episode, I will be exploring something from my law enforcement days that directly ties into today’s topic. It’s a way to describe a type of mindset that someone is in at any given time. It’s a way to describe where someone’s mindset is at any given time. We will all experience any of these five at any given point. As with everything else, it’s the extremes that we need to be careful with as you will shortly see once I explain each one. Mindset is so important in everything we do. In achieving your dream this is crucial. Mindset is practically everything! So more about this on the other side. Quote of the week: No matter what, you got to come in, and you got to continue to work, continue to have that mindset to get better every single day. Saquon Barkley Points covered: Five Awareness Levels 1. Condition White – Completely Checked Out Mindset/Emotional State: In this state, the person is disconnected from their surroundings and often from themselves. There may be a sense of numbness, apathy, or escapism, where the person avoids reality or uncomfortable truths. Impact on Dream Achievement: At this level, pursuing dreams is nearly impossible. People in Condition White often aren't aware they have a dream, or they’ve buried it so deep it doesn’t feel relevant. There's no active engagement with their goals, no self-reflection, and no action. They may not even recognize that they're dissatisfied because they're so disconnected from purpose. Support Strategies: Helping someone in this state requires compassionate awakening. Start with gentle awareness-building: daily check-ins, mindfulness exercises, or simple journaling prompts like “What makes you feel alive?” 2. Condition Orange – Somewhat Aware of Surroundings Mindset/Emotional State: Here, the person is starting to tune in. They know something feels off or that they want more, but clarity is fuzzy. There's curiosity but also hesitation. Emotionally, they may feel restlessness, slight anxiety, or even frustration from knowing they should be doing more but aren’t sure how. Impact on Dream Achievement: In Condition Orange, people may start setting vague goals or talk about change, but they struggle to create consistency. They might dabble—read a few books, sign up for a course, or journal sporadically—but rarely follow through. Support Strategies: This is a good place to introduce structured self-awareness tools like vision exercises, values identification, or guided coaching conversations. Help them explore what they want without judgment. Introduce decision-making frameworks that allow them to compare options without overwhelm. 3. Condition Yellow – Somewhat Aware of Surroundings (but More Engaged) Mindset/Emotional State: This state reflects relaxed alertness. The person is more tuned in to their goals and starting to create consistent awareness around what they want and why. There's growing confidence and more frequent engagement in self-reflection. Emotionally, they’re motivated, open to feedback, and starting to stretch beyond their comfort zone. Impact on Dream Achievement: Condition Yellow is a fertile space for momentum. They may be experimenting with new habits, building a support network, or actively working on their goals. They still encounter resistance or fear, but they’re more likely to push through it. They can begin to see results, which reinforces belief in their dreams. Support Strategies: Here, emphasize momentum-building strategies: tracking progress, celebrating wins, and refining vision into tangible action steps. Decision-making can be enhanced with tools like time-blocking, priority planning, or emotional regulation practices like breathwork or gratitude. 4. Condition Red – Somewhat Unaware Due to Being Under Stress Mindset/Emotional State: In Condition Red, the person is in survival mode. They may be actively pursuing goals but are emotionally hijacked by stress, fear, or pressure. There's a tendency to overthink, become reactive, or retreat into avoidance again. Emotionally, this shows up as overwhelm, anxiety, self-sabotage, or burnout. Impact on Dream Achievement: Progress becomes inconsistent or stalls completely. Decisions may be fear-based rather than aligned with vision. They may abandon big dreams in favor of "safer" or more familiar patterns. They’re operating with tunnel vision, unable to access the creativity and flexibility needed to stay on track. Support Strategies: Focus on nervous system regulation and stress resilience—introduce breathwork, grounding exercises, or routines that bring safety to the body and mind. Build emotional awareness around what triggers the stress response and how to reframe perceived threats. 5. Condition Black – Completely Unaware Due to Extreme Danger or Overwhelm Mindset/Emotional State: This is a state of emotional shutdown or chaos. The...

  • Closing the 18-Inch Gap Podcast-EP058: The 3 I's to Unlock Dreams NOW!
    Mar 25 2025

Today I want to bring you three phases, if you will, that you will go through to reach your dreams. But I need to warn you that not all three will get you there, only the last one will do that.

    Quote of the week:

“When you reach an obstacle, turn it into an opportunity. You have the choice. You can overcome and be a winner, or you can allow it to overcome you and be a loser. The choice is yours and yours alone. Refuse to throw in the towel. Go that extra mile that failures refuse to travel. It is far better to be exhausted from success than to be rested from failure.” — Mary Kay Ash.

Phase 1: Intrigued (Curiosity and Initial Awareness)

This phase begins with a spark—something inspires or excites you. You start daydreaming about what it would be like to pursue this dream. There is often a mix of excitement and hesitation. You begin gathering information casually. Fear and doubt often surface at this stage. More on this phase in the podcast.

Phase 2: Interested (Exploration and Small Actions)

At this stage, you move beyond curiosity and start actively researching and engaging. You begin setting small goals. Your dream starts to feel more attainable. You look for guidance—mentors, coaches, or courses that can help them gain clarity and direction. Investing time and energy into this dream feels exciting. More on this phase in the podcast.

Phase 3: Invested (Commitment and Action-Taking)

This is where you are all in. You make real commitents. Challenges are no longer deterrents. You start seeing tangible results. Your identity fully aligns with your dream. More on this phase in the podcast.
