  • Classic Auto Mall Show #191 - Race Car Driver Danny Thompson, Plus Keith Martin of Sports Car Market with Host Stewart Howden
    May 1 2025

Show #191 airdate 04-30-25- Stewart welcomes Bonneville Salt Flats World Speed Record racer and car builder #DannyThompson discussing his record speed of over 400mph, a crash there at over 200mph, nitro methane fuel plus #KeithMartin of Sports Car Market Magazine about Classic Car Repairs like A/C and over-spending to do them. This episode is "more gooder!" #MickeyThompson www.MickeyThompsonTires.com #ParnelliJones

Danny Thompson, race car driver, Motorsports Hall of Fame nominee, son of Mickey Thompson and one of only 12 people who have recorded a 400 mile per hour pass in a normally aspirated piston driven vehicle, which he accomplished in his father’s Challenger 2 car on the Salt Flats, joins Stewart on this week’s show.

Danny talks about his father racing at Bonneville, including in 1968 when he was driving for Ford and Mickey Thompson, Danny Ongais, Ray Brock and Bob Ottum were testing the new 1969 Ford Mustang Fastback. They sent 295 speed and endurance records including running for 24 hours with an average speed of 157 miles per hour.

He discusses both Challenger 1 and Challenger 2 being on display at The Motorsports Hall of Fame in Daytona, Florida and how Challenger 2 is half as wide as Challenger 1. He discusses the rules of Bonneville and the differences in sizes of length and width in the cars. Danny talks about how slippery it is driving on the. Salt Flats at Bonneville and how it’s similar to driving in snow. Danny and Stewart also discuss George Poteet holding the current land speed record for a piston driven car at 481 mph in his Speed Demon race car.

Danny Thompson discusses the Hemi V8 engine that powers the Challenger 2 and how it is very similar to a drag racing engine and runs on nitro methane. When they added 3 percent more Nitro they increased the power by about 600 horsepower.

The discuss Don Garlits and his horrible accident where he lost a foot and led him building rear engine dragsters that were much safer. When Big Daddy crashed, Mickey Thompson helped carry him off the drag strip

Danny talks about racing in the Baja 1000 and how they laid out the track with stakes or paint a rock or tie a ribbon around a tree. Sometimes Mickey would be in a plane looking at the land from above and would radio down to Danny to tell him what to mark next.

Keith talks about how nice it is to find car shows and events on social media and how easy it is for people to promote events and share the information. Or if he wants to know if an event is in the area, all he has to do is search the internet. He talks about going to a car show at a local high school and how it was in the midday, which was a great time for a car show. They talk about what makes cars and coffee great, but you have to be there earl

  • Classic Auto Mall Show #189 - Everything You Need To Know About Selling and Buying a Car By Consignment - Every Step - With Stewart Howden
    Apr 17 2025

CAM Show #189 airdate 04-16-25 has Stewart, Steve and J. R. discuss the ENTIRE process of buying or selling a Consignment vehicle in response to a listener question...well, TWO questions. Among the areas discussed are whether Classic Auto Mall is the right venue for your particular vehicle, discussion of the realistic value, Pennsylvania requirements, the honest and complete representation of your vehicle, costs involved and final negotiations to sell or buy plus transportation to or from you. The main focus is on the importance of ACCURATE Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) and CORRECT titles of ownership. Also, new arrivals and general car talk. #Panoz @BringATrailer #1TankTrip @6abc https://6abc.com/videoClip/16146029/

How do I buy or sell a classic car by consignment at Classic Auto Mall? What information about the vehicle do I need to provide? We want as information and detail and paperwork as possible. The more we know, the better chance we have of selling the car, and selling the car for the correct amount of money. How is the price determined? Stewart suggests you always make sure the VIN on the car matches the title! Sometimes the title is incorrect because someone transcribed it wrong.

Stewart goes over the difference between a VIN number and a serial number and where to find them on a car. On modern cars, the VIN is usually in the dash and can be seen looking through the windshield. Do I need to maintain insurance on a car when it’s at Classic Auto Mall? Do I need to maintain vehicle registration with a license plate? A car for sale by consignment cannot be test driven on a dealer plate.

Are there upfront costs for you to sell my car? What costs are involved in having Classic Auto Mall sell my car? We don’t charge anything for 120 days. Are there monthly fees? We don’t’ charge any monthly fees for the first 120 days. How much do you charge for storage and when do you charge for storage? Is the mall heated and climate controlled?

What is a Vin Data Report? What does a Vin Date Report tell you? If I sell a car on my own, where should I meet the person to look at the car? What is the commission structure and how does it work? What happens if I lose the title? What if it’s not the most recent title? Stewart tells you what a car broadcast sheet is and where to find it on a car. How do I sign my title to transfer it and do I have to go to a notary? Can the dealer sign using power of attorney?

They discuss Keith’s new blog, Would You Rather Drive a New Porsche 911 which is in reference to his son deciding what car to drive in a 1,500 mile Porsche Road Rally. He could choose between an older Lotus Elise or a 2024 Porsche 911 Carrera, but he thought the 911 may be too much power.
