Non-musical history for today: 1917 – Arabian troops led by T. E. Lawrence ("Lawrence of Arabia") and Auda ibu Tayi captured Aqaba from the Ottoman Empire during the Arab Revolt. I'm sure you knew this, but yes, Lawrence of Arabia wasn't just a fantastic film (and it was), it was basically an (embellished) account and biopic. See the film if you haven't. The cinematography was out of this world. The score. Peter O'Toole. The whole thing. See it. Then tell me your thoughts on it. Music history, album anniversaries, birthdays, and deaths for July 6. Non-musical history for today: 1971 – The Twenty-sixth Amendment to the United States Constitution, lowering the voting age from 21 to 18 years, was formally certified by President Richard Nixon. Vote. It seems voting is the only way we can end this nightmare. The midterms are getting here at a snail's pace. I apologize for the political heft of the last few posts. I know that's not why you come here or listen to the podcast. Right now, I'm not happy with my country. I do not like my country. My country is all kinds of ways screwed, and it seems to be getting worse. It saddens me, and I let that leak into my posts. I'll try to be happier going forward. I can't promise I will; only that I'll try. Music history, album anniversaries, birthdays, and deaths for July 5. Recorded in the Omniverus Podcast Studios at Liberty Plaza. Non-musical history for today: 1776 – American Revolution: The United States Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Second Continental Congress. Does that paper mean anything? Does the Constitution? Not right now, they don't. Music history, album anniversaries, birthdays, and deaths for July 4. Recorded in the Omniverus Podcast Studios at Liberty Plaza. Non-musical history for today: 2013 – President of Egypt, Mohamed Morsi, was removed from office by the military after four days of protests all over the country calling for his resignation, to which he did not respond. The president of the Supreme Constitutional Court of Egypt, Adly Mansour, was declared acting president until further elections are held. Oh, how I wish we'd see something like this. The protests are there. Now, someone needs to do something. Music history, album anniversaries, birthdays, and deaths for July 3. Recorded in the Omniverus Podcast Studios at Liberty Plaza. Non-musical history for today: 1934 – The Night of the Long Knives, Adolf Hitler's violent purge of his political rivals in Germany, took place. Yeah, I can see this happening again under the fascist who rules this country like he's a king or dictator today. "F" him and all he stands for, by the way.
