  • 83. The Future of Sleep is "Electric Medicine," with Tim Rosa of Somnee
    May 22 2025

“Like a toothbrush for the brain” – meet your new bedtime routine. Yes, it's a gadget but according to Tim Rosa, the company's CEO and my guest today, Somnee Sleep passes the "mom test," meaning if his mom can make sense of it, anyone can.

Co-founded by renowned sleep expert Dr. Matt Walker, PhD, Somnee is on a mission to help everyone sleep better through personalized neuroscience. Backed by 22 clinical studies, 24 patents, and a 3+ year sleep study, Somnee has pioneered the integration of sleep lab-grade technology into a comfortable wearable headband for at-home use. It’s proven to help your brain naturally fall asleep twice as fast, stay asleep over 30 minutes longer, and reduce tossing and turning by a third.

Tim Rosa has over 20 years of experience in consumer and enterprise marketing, business management, and launching world-class brands, products, and services. Tim served as the CMO at Fitbit, where he was pivotal in establishing the category of connected health and fitness wearable products. Tim has advised or worked for Electronic Arts, 2K Sports, ESPN Videogames, and Jasper Health.

    We discuss:

    • Sleep cannot be tracked as accurately from the wrist or the finger as from above the neck – enter: the Somnee headband
    • Somnee is a revolution in sleep wearables – the only device to both track AND treat your sleep, addressing both sleep latency (falling asleep) AND sleep maintenance (staying asleep), and outperforming both melatonin AND ambien in improving sleep quality
    • The future of “Electric Medicine” - the goal to offer Somnee as a prescription
    • Patients with PTSD, anxiety, veterans, have all reaped benefits from this technology
    • The only sleep technology to ever qualify for the NBA launchpad platform
    • In 2011, the first study to directly study sleep’s influence on athletic basketball performance revealed that extending sleep improved sprint times (-4.3%), shooting accuracy for free throws and 3-pointers (+9%), reaction time, and self-reported physical and mental well-being. Since then, further research has supported sleep’s importance in cardiovascular health, lean muscle mass growth and repair, and endurance.

  • 82. Sophie Grégoire Trudeau Wants Us To Open Up and Slow The F Down
    May 8 2025

If you're familiar with the name Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, there's a lot more to it than the former First Lady of Canada. A best-selling author, celebrated public speaker, and a passionate mental health advocate, Sophie has championed gender equality, female empowerment, youth self-esteem, and the importance of physical activity for over two decades.

In her first book, Closer Together: Knowing Ourselves, Loving Each Other, Sophie explores the science behind brain health, emotional intelligence, and our unique emotional signatures, drawing on her personal journey and interviews with a wide range of experts in neuroscience, mindfulness, mental health and more. She candidly shares her own struggles with learning to love herself, and it's this vulnerability that makes it such a special read.

Between some serious heart-to-heart topics and a few giggles, we discussed:

    • The root cause of stress as a dysfunctional relationship with the present moment – i.e. being "here" and wanting to be "there"
    • As women, we don't have patience with ourselves, we’re not taught we are worthy of rest
    • Women who put their own needs last have a substantially greater chance of suffering from autoimmune diseases like MS, fibromyalgia and lupus
    • The rhythm of love is slow – how can we truly love when we are stressed and our energy is frenetic and panicked?
    • The importance of unstructured play in every relationship
    • Don't miss the amazing breathwork exercise Sophie leads at the end of our chat! Tap into the vagus nerve and calm the F down

  • 81. Longevity Lessons From Dolphins + Pecorino cheese, with Dr. Stephanie Venn-Watson
    Apr 24 2025

Is removing dairy fat from our diets the culprit behind why we are now living sicker than we were in the 1990s? And what do dolphins have to do with human longevity? Fair questions.

A new supplement called Fatty15 may have been on your radar recently, there's a good reason to pay attention. It’s a groundbreaking product of pure C15:0, the first essential fatty acid to be found in almost 100 years, and said to be the key nutrient for longevity. And my guest today discovered it!

Dr. Stephanie Venn-Watson is a veterinary epidemiologist with over 80 peer-reviewed scientific publications and 70 patents. She discovered the health benefits of C15:0 while working for the US Navy to continually improve the long-term health of Navy bottlenose dolphins. While seeking to understand why some dolphins were aging at healthier and slower rates than others, she was able to identify which molecules predicted the healthiest aging dolphins, and discovered C15:0 as a healthy saturated fatty acid, the first essential fatty acid to be found in almost 100 years and the key to human longevity, which she details in her new book, The Longevity Nutrient.

    We Discuss:

    • The humanitarian role of dolphins in the US. Navy
    • How dolphins & humans have co-evolved to share genetic similarities
    • Grass-fed dairy has 2x as much C:15 as corn-fed
    • Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease didn’t exist before 1980 and now it affects 1 in 3 people - what's the theory behind this?
    • The difference between healthy saturated vs unsaturated fatty acids
    • IMPORTANT: If we don’t have enough C:15 in our cells, the aging process is ACCELERATED
