It should be noted that the altar was located within a Black Ark of Naggaroth and Archoan used the Black Ark to travel the oceans. Which led him the southern Chaos Wastes (Antarctica) to find the armor and the steed. Also I think the sorcerer Sheerian turned into the chaos dragon and destroyed the Black Ark in it's transformation. it also grew in size as it devoured his army. The Order of the Fiery Heart also played a part in him turning away from Sigmar because they tried arresting him because of a prophecy. He actually gets into a huge fight with them within the Grand Cathedral
