In this episode, I chat to my darling mother, Julie, about her experiences at Catholic school, what inspired her to be a part of the landmark Franklin River protest, her trip to India at 22, and what it was like volunteering at a children's hospital in Calcutta.
We both get emotional as Mum shares what it was like to care for her husband, my father, with an autoimmune disorder, and finding out her son has a liver disease.
We recorded the episode in my apartment in Rushcutters Bay, Sydney, Australia. I have purposefully kept the recording raw and unedited.
In our conversation, we explore many topics, including meditation, illness, poverty, death, and suicide.
I encourage you to listen with an open heart, but be prepared that the subject matter can be difficult at times. Go gently.
If you are struggling with grief or loss, please reach out for help. There are many resources available, including Lifeline Australia (13 11 14).
