Acerca de esta escucha
He looked over the manuscript he held in his hand then said blandly, “‘A respectable gentleman travelling on business was shot yesterday outside the town of Meryton, near the ancient Roman ruins.’ Is that what you consider a relevant beginning for a newspaper article? My dear fellow, do you really think that such news will make you a correspondent for The Times?
You could not even dare to hope that someone from The St James's Chronicle might consider reading your uninspiring article. Also, although you do not know the circumstances of the incident, you dare to advance preposterous assumptions and present them as facts! Dear Hoskins, you are a talented young man, but, do forgive me, you seem to lack a sense of reality.
An inconsistent report about a chance incident near Meryton is not something of interest or of public concern. Since you cannot expect anyone to benefit from the news you are intending to send in to be approved for publishing, I would strongly advise you to drop it. You cannot write ‘a certain Fitzwilliam Darcy’, abandoning common manners and politeness. Despair not, but you have a long hard road to travel before becoming a journalist.”
As his adviser gave him a kind, encouraging smile, Mr Hoskins slowly looked up and reached out to receive his manuscript back.
Mr Phillips seemed to accept returning the paper to the young man but then, as though struck by a sudden thought, he withdrew his hand and shook his head.
“No, I would rather keep this experimental manuscript. I do advise you not to try to write a similar draft and send it to a newspaper.”
Mr Hoskins flinched in surprise that Mr Phillips had guessed his intention.
“A final piece of advice from me, young fellow, and I need you to remember this. Think how much hardship you would have to endure if a respectable gentleman were to sue you for spreading false allegations concerning his person. Do I make myself clear?”
Although it may be hard for you to believe at first that this is a warm and sweet Pride and Prejudice variation novel, well, it really is. As you may have observed from the above excerpt, ‘Who Shot Mr Darcy?’ will also have its share of mystery and detective work, but the romance between Miss Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy will also be at the heart of the story, as expected.

So much in life depends on chance and sheer luck. How much do we often owe to being in the right place at the right time? In Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth Bennet plans to visit the Lake District with her uncle and aunt, yet ends up at Pemberley instead, just as, by coincidence, Mr Darcy also arrives home. They meet, understand one another better and all eventually ends well. But what if they did not have such luck? What if Elizabeth actually went to the Lake District and was nowhere near Pemberley, and she and Mr Darcy never met again until another four years had gone by? Now...

‘Elizabeth’s Covenant’ is more than just a new edition of one of Florence Gold’s early novels; it is a revised version that, while grounded in the same idea of a covenant undertaken by Elizabeth, it also reveals an entirely different underlying mystery. Elspeth Awbrey, formerly Bennet, is the sister of Mr Bennet and the guardian of traditions inherited from their Scottish ancestor, Elspeth MacLellan. Married to Oliver Bennet, the man who imposed the infamous entail on Longbourn, Elspeth MacLellan insisted that all their descendants, whether male or female, must fulfil a covenant to ...

“You will be coming out at your next birthday and you must act like the daughter of a gentleman so you can attract a husband!” Mrs. Bennet reminded her. “Yes, Mamma.” Elizabeth’s mouth was saying “yes,” but her heart was saying “no.” She visualized what it would be like at her first assembly. Would she dress like her older sister and be expected to flirt with prospective suitors? Darcy proposes to Elizabeth during her stay at Netherfield, while Jane is recovering—well before the disastrous proposal at Hunsford, and before Elizabeth has heard Wickham’s full story or visited Rosings. Because his attraction is stronger, or his pride momentarily loses control, he confesses his feelings too soon. Elizabeth, unarmed with Wickham’s lies and still unsure of her own opinions, hesitates. The social tension between their families and class remains, but the timeline shifts everything.

What's the worst that can happen when a Regency lady commits a Propriety Violation? Might she suffer acute embarrassment, a tarnished reputation, a forced marriage, shunning of her family, or something even more dire? These consequences might be devastating, but could we countenance a more nefarious possibility?Elizabeth Bennet is enjoying a peaceful morning stroll in Ramsgate when the pleasant sound of the waves is interrupted by a scream. She impulsively reacts and finds her life altered forever. Caution: This story contains brief, non-graphic descriptions of violence, death, and war.

Author’s Note: This book features NO significant changes! The story has been re-published with a new cover and minor changes, but it brings nothing new to the readers who have already purchased or read it! Elizabeth d’Arcy is one of my boldest twists—in terms of plot, that is 😊. Napoleon’s spies, outlaws, dangers, and love above all—this story has it all. When Darcy is assaulted in his own home, nearly everyone assumes it is the handiwork of a common thief searching for valuable items—everyone except his aunt Lady Antoinette Darcy. With the sole missing item being the family ...
