Acerca de esta escucha

A return to the period adventure thriller. Where Dead Men Meet reestablishes Mark Mills as a master storyteller for fans of William Boyd, Charles Cumming, or Robert Harris.

Paris, 1937. Luke Hamilton - a junior air intelligence officer at the British Embassy - finds himself the target of an assassination attempt. A clear case of mistaken identity - or so it first appears. As Luke is hunted across a continent sliding toward war, he comes to learn that the answers lie deep in a past that predates his abandonment as a baby on the steps of an orphanage 25 years ago.

From the author of the best-selling The Savage Garden, and set against a terrific backdrop of Europe on the cusp of the Second World War, this is a compelling novel, rich in adventure, espionage, secrets, and lies.

Strong characters, compelling story. Unusual stories - very inventive yet still plausible, believable, asI said, compelling. I have listened to all of his books available as audiobooks and all have been handled well: excellent narrators, good sound quality. Highly recommended.

Underappreciated author

The tale itself wasn't too bad, but I found the pacing pretty erratic overall, and wasn't overwhelmingly interested in most of the characters. I stuck it out, but probably only worth the one listen.

Rather slow.

At the end of the book I will come back and polish this review for story ascpects. However, right off the bat, this book has two major things going for it: Blackstone Audio and David Linski. I'm already biased. I've listened to many audio books over the years and Blackstone Audio Inc has the best audio production quality. I don't know their secrets, but if it's coming from them it's going to be spectacular. David Linski is one of my top three favorite narrators along with Neil Gaiman and Alan Cumming. These three narrators could read me the encyclopedia and I would be swept away. Lastly, I have an Achilles heel for crime, suspense, thrillers, fantasy, and espionage. If this novel doesn't knock my socks off, I know where to point the finger. Stay tuned!
