Acerca de esta escucha

Walden or, "Life in the Woods", is, primarily, a reflection upon simple living in natural surroundings. Henry David Thoreau kept a journal during his stay in a cabin beside Walden Pond in Concord, Massachusetts, for two years, two months, and two days, from July 1845 to Sept 1847. The book is based on that journal. In addition to being a beautiful tribute to the joys of a simple life, to Nature, the seasons, and the animals in the area, this is a profound work dealing with the illusions permeating civilized society and the real meaning and purpose of life. Critics today regard Walden as a classic that explores natural simplicity, harmony, and beauty as models for just social and cultural conditions.Public Domain (P)1980 Jimcin Recordings Aire libre y Naturaleza Ciencia Clásicos Ensayos Estados Unidos Literatura Mundial Mundial Naturaleza y Ecología

I wasn't that annoyed by the reader. But I'm not that impressed by this book. Thoreau lived 2 miles from his mom's house. Back to nature, or living simply off Mommy's goodie basket?

Thoreau was a fruit.

At first you may not like the narrator but once underway it may seem impossible for someone else to do it better justice. This recording had a profound and blissful effect on me. I think what Henry did is in most boys and mens fantasy at some point, that is to build a simple small cabin on the shores of a small body of water and live so blissfully in the simplicity it affords. Seeing as perhaps one in a million are granted the possibility to live out this fantasy ,henry fully creates it in its entirety and so very much more. A beautiful deep present which will never be out of print, if only i could get my boys to read it, read anything for that matter lol.

Something for your soul

This is a powerful yet simple book. Much of its power coming from that very simplicity. In today's incredibly complex society it's just a wonderful book to hear. Throreau offers precious insights into what is really important in life. As he says, "Simplicity, Simplicity, Simplicity...." The man was a genius and his musings are both philosophical and heartfelt. As American naturalist and essayist John Burroughs said, "There is nothing else like it; nothing so good, certainly. It is a challenge and a triumph, and has a morning freshness and ?lan..."
The reader did a great job but he does have a New England accent. It certainly fits the book since Thoreau was from Massachusetts, but those who have problems with accents may want to listen to the sample first.

Powerful yet simple classic

The reader was terrible. He put accents in the wrong place and sounded as if he was reading the book for the first time. Try the other Walden.
