It is an ironical fact that Lady Wetherby was by nature one of the firmest believers in existence in the policy of breaking things gently to people. She had a big, soft heart, and she hated hurting her fellows. As a rule, when she had bad news to impart to any one, she administered the blow so gradually and with such mystery as to the actual facts that the victim, having passed through the various stages of imagined horrors, was genuinely relieved, when she actually came to the point, to find that all that had happened was that he had lost all his money.

But now, in perfect innocence, thinking only to pass along an interesting bit of information, she had crushed Bill as effectively as if she had used a club for that purpose.

With all the various narration styles competing to interpret the Wodehouse array of characters, Simon vance does one better. He honors the writing. With style, and eye to subtlety and of course talent, this is by far one of the best readings of a Wodehouse gem!

Another good love story yarn by Wodehouse. This one is less stereotypical than his later books, particularly without the fast talking male protagonist. I found it heart warming. Simon Vance is a serviceable reader for this one, definitely better than the reader in the other version.

Audio versions of Wodehouse novels are so reasonably priced I always keep some on my iPod for breaks from more intense listening experiences. As always, in PGW, the story is about class, money, inheritance, confused identities and engagements. This time the Brits visit America. Bees, a monkey, "wild" dancing and alcohol contribute to the silliness. Simon Vance provides the proper British tone essential to enjoying Wodehouse. Golfing, shown in the cover art, provides some humorous comments but does not really contribute to the plot.

My favorite of all of PG Wodehouse's books. I love Wooster and Jeeves but this one has more depth and not just humor.

The reader was excellent, one of the best, and the story totally absorbing and entertaining

As usual, he can take an ordinary situation, but write in such a way that one can't help burst out laughing.

Simon Vance gives a wonderful performance of this story. PG Wodehouse makes me laugh out loud listening to the antics of his characters or turns of his phrases. I think he was a comic genius. I have been using his stories on Audible to gently pack me off to sleep on a regular basis— then bi back up to where I left off.

What made the experience of listening to Uneasy Money the most enjoyable?

Wodehouse absurd plot.

Would you be willing to try another book from P.G. Wodehouse? Why or why not?

Of course. I'm a fan of Wodehouse and pulled this one down for a trip I took.

Have you listened to any of Simon Vance’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I actually found this one because I was looking for Simon Vance. I thought he did a great job with a Dickens and, since I'm a Wodehouse fan, this was an easy choice. I'm guessing Vance is British because the Americans in this reading were a bit rough.

If you could rename Uneasy Money, what would you call it?

I think Audible needs to find some better questions to ask. Seriously.

Any additional comments?

This is not the best Wodehouse. But it is good Wodehouse. I'm not sure he had much feel for Americans. He did a better job with dialog involving the British aristocracy of the day. But it is still absurd Wodehouse with some thoroughly enjoyable characters.

P g Wodehouse stories are all whimsical in nature, thus a more lighthearted tone should be used in the telling. This narrator is great in Dicken's novels, but the best to date for me is J Cecil. But I will take (almost) any audio rendition of Wodehouse!
