Trystan was born with some very unique attributes that cause him to be taunted by his classmates. When an ancient wizard appears to him from the pages of an ensorcelled wizardry journal, Trystan is amazed to discover that he is descended from a family of powerful wizards and that his best friend, Gwyneth, has also been chosen to become a wizard’s apprentice. After several years of training in Wales, the two teenagers join other aspiring apprentices on the hidden Isle of Albion. The Isle, however, is beset by conflicts among the Isle’s magical inhabitants, many who are afflicted by a curse that has transformed them into pitiable creatures intent on restoring their former powers for good or ill. Worse yet, a long sought-after talisman has fallen into the hands of the dark wizard Mordryd. The necessity of becoming full-fledged wizards is now so urgent that the unproven apprentices are sent to acquire their staffs and retrieve the talisman. Friendships are both broken and forged during this dangerous mission that might, in the end, kill them all.
