Acerca de esta escucha
Could WWI have been stopped? It not only resulted in millions of deaths, but had a malign influence on history. It was the direct cause of the even bloodier WW2, whose effects are still being felt today. This is an account of an endeavour to stop the war, so altering the whole of human history for the better.
'The Great War,' later known as World War One, was the phenomenon that set the Twentieth Century on its course as 'The Century of Wars.' It was the direct cause of the even bloodier WW2, and other events that have scarred human history, like the Soviet Revolution and is aftermath. We still live with some of the worst effects of that time in the present day.
Was WWI really unstoppable? Or could it have been drastically shortened by a small intervention into an historical event from Tommy Green, a disillusioned craftsman in what was then the semi-rural village of Greenford, Middlesex?
No, this crucial event didn't take place in Sarajevo, Bosnia on 28th June, 1914, but in Paris just over a month later.
What unfolded over that summer month is told in Tommy's War: July 1914.
The book may be of special interest to those who want to know more about some of the people in the book, like Charlie Chaplin, (who had a generally unknown connection with Hanwell, Middlesex,) and those who know nearby Greenford. This is now in the London Borough of Ealing and has grown enormously since July, 1914.
