Agent Cooper Dayton is going to meet his boyfriend's werewolf family. Unarmed. On their turf.
And he's bringing his cat.
When Agent Cooper Dayton agreed to attend the funeral for Oliver Park's grandfather, he didn't know what he was getting into. Turns out, the deceased was the alpha of the most powerful werewolf pack on the eastern seaboard. And his death is highly suspicious. Regardless, Cooper is determined to love and support Park the way Park has been there for him.
But Park left him woefully unprepared for the wolf pack politics and etiquette. Rival packs? A seating order at the dinner table? A mysterious figure named the Shepherd? The worst is that Park didn't tell his family one key thing about Cooper. Cooper feels two steps behind, and reticent Park is no help.
There are plenty of pack members eager to open up about Park and why Cooper is wrong for him. Their stories make Cooper wonder if he's holding Park back. But there's no time to get into it...as lethal tranquilizer darts start to fly, Cooper needs to solve the mystery of the alpha's death and fight for the man he loves - all before someone else dies.
Contains mature themes.

Tired of listening to stories about humans? Consider the werewolf! Taking various forms over the course of centuries and mythologies, often as flesh-devourers, werewolves now commonly appear in fantasy and romance novels as shape-shifters. The shape-shifting element in werewolves' stories has almost humanized them, depicting the internal struggles we all face within ourselves, on some level or another.

Bloomquist has a lot to deal with here. While perhaps not the universal opinion, I think he does a fine job with all the characters he has to navigate. No major complaints here.
What I love about Adhara's treatment of this series is that she isn't afraid to create wildly different environments to test Cooper and Oliver. Too often, a series that follows the same couple will essentially live in the same world the entire time. That allows the leads to lean on the familiar to suss out what isn't right. We are often reading the same book over and over. That does not happen here. Each book is in a completely different place and wildly different circumstances.
As we get closer to Park's family home, an icy road and questionable brakes finds our guys off the road and miles from anywhere. While Park goes off for help, we get the first inkling of just what Cooper is in for. An inquisitive wolf and strangers on the road get Cooper (and his cat) to town, where he immediately finds out that outsiders are suspect. Especially outsiders who have questionable scents attached. Once we get to Oliver's family home, Cooper gets his first look at a wolf transition and he wants to know more.
Sadly, he is going to have to wait as there is a lot he isn't ready for staring him down. Protocol is only one of them, the family didn't know that he is human until his arrival. Things go downhill from there. This surreal world keeps Cooper off balance, especially when he finds out that very inquisitive wolf is Oliver's ex.
Adhara really runs them through the paces, with Park's secrets now on full display. Cooper continues his established pattern of heading into really questionable situations without back up, something he does often. Park struggles with his own fears. This is book where I solidified my opinion that Oliver is the more interesting of the two, which as we go on I struggle a bit with Cooper being the driver of the stories.
Cooper proves himself a good match for Oliver in that he is quite fearless, and very willing to fight anyone - whether on two feet or four paws - to be with him. We already know that Oliver is hooked. Another high recommended installment of this series!
The wolves will keep you on your toes!

The narration for this one is very good and the voices for the characters fit and were distinctive. It kept me engaged and has me wanting to listen to the next book versus reading it.
Wonderful characters and family drama

In this third book, Oliver Park experiences a loss in his extended family and decides to bring Cooper along with him as he returns to his family estate for the funeral. What was he thinking? It might have been okay....IF Park had warned Cooper about how the family might react to him bringing home a human. IF he had explained ANY of the Shifter customs to him - like politics and etiquette. IF he hadn't chosen to hide everything about his past so Cooper wouldn't think bad of him.....Yeah, what was he thinking...??
Cooper is stunned by the grandeur, wealth and power of the family and feels blindsided from the moment he arrives. He was completely unprepared for all of it and Park is no help because he is desperately still trying to keep him away from any information that might put him in danger.
To top things off, there are also some major shenanigans going on and it becomes apparent very quickly that Cooper is going to end up directly in the middle of everything. And yep - it doesn't take long for Cooper to realize that things are not what they seem.
Before you know it, there are murders, betrayals, and a complicated effort by someone to take over the Park Pack. Cooper actually shines as he is thrown into the deep end of the pool and Park's family finally gets to see the abilities of the man that Park has fallen in love with.
Can't wait to see what's up next for these guys.
This series keeps getting better and better!
