 After the death of their beloved dog, Brian and Julie adopt a black mouth cur named Winnie, sight unseen. The dog loves Julie but barely gives Brian the time of day. This contributes to Brian’s funk, which involves drinking way too much and carrying on a long affair with a woman who believes he is in love with her. While his ghostwriting career sounds good on paper, he has to shovel snow for money to get by. When Brian and Julie try to get away for a night, Winnie runs away from her dog sitter and is lost in the woods. What follows is Brian attempting to save his dog, while saving himself in the process.

The cast of characters Brian meets on his search include a hippie hiding from his mom, an unemployment caseworker obsessed with Prince, and a pick-up artist with a cannibal fetish. The Wayward Cur is a book of transgressive fiction with heart, featuring a broken man trying to get a little better every day.

Author Neal Robinson has been a pro boxer, an English teacher, and a landscaper. He lives on island off the coast of Maine.
