you'll know it when you hear it. I'm a young guy who's just curious but oh my God, she makes me want to slam my head against my keyboard whenever she invokes concepts like "patriarchy" without any sort of diving in or further explanation- here, she sounds like Alex Jones invoking the "liberal elite." but the medical information is super valuable!

insufferable narrator, invaluable information

Dr Gunter’s book is extremely well-written, with a great design. Short to-the-point chapters, no fluff, no unnecessary jargon. As a physician I can say that this book is actually much better than any teaching we received in medical school for non-emergencies. Yes we learned about serious conditions but they really skipped the basics on health and this book covers it. It’s evidence-based and also based on Dr. Gunter’s extensive experience as an ob-gyn. She also takes on the “woo” that is endemic in so much of the wellness industry that cynically wants to make money by turning women’s normal bodies into “abnormal” ones. This is a great book.

Dr. Jen Gunter's book is a great reference for women seeking to understand their own bodies. you can go to the chapter most relevant to you without having to read the other chapters. It was helpful to learn about the themes including that there is limited research on women's health, which has allowed industries to profit off pseudo science. the most important thing women can do is do their research, reference medical professionals such as Dr Gunter and advocate for themselves with their medical providers!

practical advice, short and concise

i appreciate the information, the ways in which it was organized, and the no-nonsense approach. I am grateful for reading this late-in-life too (though of course I want to gift it to every young woman in my life.) I am motivated to find medical help for my issues and am particularly happy to be armed against all the misinformation out there. Thank you Dr. Jen!

An Important Book!

I have learned more about my body from this book than from any doctor, parent, education system, or well intentioned google search. I am gifting this book to all of the important women and romantic partners in my life.

Everyone should read (listen) to this.

I had heard Dr. Gunter on a podcast- was excited to see this on audible. We ought to know about our bodies!

Refreshing!

Not the most exciting book to read but very informative. Would suggest for all teen & college aged people.

Everyone needs to read this

The book is heavy science and evidence-based, as expected because it's written by an MD. Narrator is the author. She is witty and I love her accent. I appreciate that she lays out not only treatment options and pros/cons and risks/benefits BUT she also normalizes that "V" aren't dirty or need deo or cleaning! Also i cludes transgender individuals at times where she can. Read it! Share it!

Vagina Owner Here, Learned a Few New Things

She admits HPV has not enough research to conclude anything could make you more susceptible other than condoms (minus lamb skin) than adds circumcision (male genital mutilation) is a factor to prevent which has never had any sustainable research to conclude. That would be equivalent to saying female genital mutilation prevents STDs because it decreases a moist environment created by the mucus membranes.

What causes microtrauma is sex with a circumcised male, the corona(head of the male penis) causes friction and the shape pulls out womens moisture in her vagina adding to micro-trauma which can cause many issues with female vaginas.

I love how she includes FTM trans and how we need more research to conclude more health treatment for FTM vaginas in chapter 3. I think she needs to study abroad in Europe because the USA, Canada, and Islam does share a lot of the same misinformation about male genitalia for the same reason some schools prevent certain sex education in certain states. I love how she uses what she knows as mostly facts to educate without adding emotion, the only thing I found lacking in a medical standpoint is her place of education on the male genitalia and the affects on the inside of the vagina. Circumcision never had anything to do with STDs, you just put the condom on after retracting the prepuce, pinching the tip of the condom then rolling the condom back.

I feel emotion and medical is just as bad as emotion and politics. Yes you need emotion for bedside manner but when there is an agenda to sell aside from science it affects the patients unfairly.

Very small amount of culturally sheltered information due to

This is a great book for anyone who has a vagina or loves / like someone with a vagina. there are many misconceptions about women's health that are even perpetuated in the medical community. I am a primary care provider and learned quite a bit in the book (unfortunately; I learned a lot of unfounded and rediculous things that I passed on). I hope there are more evidence-based books like this out there to dispell perpetuated myths in other areas of Health Care as well.

Great read
