Acerca de esta escucha

H.G. Wells' classic science fiction tale The Time Machine is the first of Wells' "scientific romances" (which included The Invisible Man, War of the Worlds, and The Island of Doctor Moreau). This edition includes the original unabridged manuscript, as it was originally serialized in the New Republic.

The Time Machine relates the story of the Time Traveller, a Victorian inventor who creates a machine that allows him to travel to any time period. He chooses to rocket forward into the unknown world of the future, landing in the year 802,701 where he encounters the humanoids descendants of Earth, the seemigly friendly and benign Eloi, and the subterranean and primitive Morlocks.

The Time Traveller rescues and befriends a young Eloi girl named Weena and, upon discovering that his machine has been stolen by the Morlocks, must descend into their dark kingdom to recover it.

Hailed for over a century as one of the finest science fiction stories of all time, H.G. Wells' The Time Machine is a classic story of adventure, exploration, and scientific curiosity.

I first read “The Time Machine” in the early 1980’s. Already at that time a fan of the classic film adaptation, I instantly loved the book.
Feeling motivated recently to revisit it, there were a great number of audiobook renditions of it to chose from. I chose this one, based on listening to a preview of it, and having just finished it, I can say I chose well.
Narrator Kevin Theis does an excellent job with the narration and the various voices, sounding convincingly of the period when the book was published. The inclusion of occasional sound effects add to it, strengthening the overall listening experience without being overpowering or distracting.

Took a time machine back to when I should have read this classic. In fact, I'm glad I waited. It's a wonderful story and it is superbly told. The narration is much more than that. With subtle but solid - and occasionally hilarious - sound effects. It's time to read or re-visit this *timeless* classic with this one right here.

Take great source material and make it fly!

Once again Kevin Theiss does a terrific job narrating a fascinating story. I have never read The Time Machine but I was curious as to why it remains such a classic. It is much more social commentary than it is science fiction although it certainly fits into that genre. I highly recommend this book.

Great Social Commentary

This is a wonderfully entertaining version of this classic tale! Not only does Theis do his usual masterful job with multiple characters, but the folks at Fort Raphael Publishing add exactly the right touches via sound design -- music, sound effects, animal and human (?!) noises -- to bring the book to stirring life. A delightful ride from beginning to end!

A fully-realized version of a classic tale

The story of H.G. Wells Time Machine is already brilliant on it’s own. The narrator Kevin brings it to life, including sound effects. A very well done performance.

Enjoyable listen

This story is probably H. G. Wells' best. A haunting look at the past and future of Earth, as seen by a genius time traveller. It was revolutionary sci-fi for the time it was written, being the first popular work on the subject of time travel, and inspired by the social ills of the time in Victorian England. Recommended listening for fans of sci-fi, Victoriana, or historical literature.

The performance by Kevin Theis was on point. The acting, music, and sound effects effectively conjure up the atmosphere and characters of the story. It begins at first with a spirit of wonder at the discussion of the invention of time travel, and then ending with the bleakness of the alien landscapes of Earth's future.
