 The war between the Human Council of Worlds and their allies against the evil Infinite Empire was rapidly approaching crisis point. The Empire were massing a huge fleet under the command of an accomplished strategist with the aim to smash human military capability into submission, which they reasoned would cause the rebellion of the Empire's rebel races to collapse. Defence of Human space was being organised by the veteran Admiral Ng but with so few resources to call on he could not afford to meet the enemy in open battle and their allies were too embroiled in their own survival to render significant support. At the forefront of the struggle was Kyle Cassidy, sometimes called Getaway after his previous ex-con life and the crew of his ship, Seeker of Moons. Getaway had been fighting the Empire and its pirate conscripts since they were first encountered. His reckless bravery and the ability to find solutions to near impossible problems had seen the engineer promoted to captain his ship, a role which he didn't enjoy but had to accept. He and his ship had already been involved with the rescue of Prince Morgan and also the liberation of hundreds of human women abducted by the Empire but there were many more still in the enemies hands, including the Prince's consort Lady Khadisha. Kyle, who was not good at relationships had already lost his first true love and crew member Pixie, who had been horribly crippled in one of his previous missions and it was a situation made worse when Bambi disappeared from the family home to later be pronounced dead. She had in fact been selected to join the Mandroid programme, where wounded veterans had their injuries healed and body parts replaced with high-tech bio mechanical limbs and organs. To be accepted for the hugely expensive programme a candidate had to give up their former life and become soldiers for the Council of Worlds Mandroid Division forever, abandoning free will and their families accordingly. In the close proximity of a fighting crew, Kyle had become ever closer to his stuffy and pedantic Admin Officer, Esther Fuentes who was gradually realizing that people were more important than hide bound rules. After they had saved each other from death a bond formed which they thought would never be broken and duly they undertook a Legal Partnership ceremony, which meant that Esther would no longer be allowed on the same vessel as her partner. As the final instalment of the tale begins Kyle is concerned for his missing pilot Speedy, who was last heard of flying the Andoran Asteroid Destroyer, Deliverance and Seeker of Moons was awaiting its new orders.
