Acerca de esta escucha
The worn over boot heels brought Blake two steps closer to the four men as Poco shifted to the side. “The good book says let your speech be yea or nay, Lafe. So why not let things ride the way they are. You’ve done your best to get me to follow the evils of your ways, now leave it there.”
“Listen to that boys. Were only supposed to say yea or nay. We ain’t supposed to drink or cuss anymore. Why if this preacher isn’t stopped he’ll have this whole town drinking nothing but water and saying only what he wants them too.”
Clem spoke from beside Lafe. “We’re wasting too much time talking. Let’s get this show on the road. Just put the ax down, preacher, and come with us. We got a whole barrel of tar and feathers just itching to tag along with you.”
There was no hesitation at all in Blake’s movements, he started to swing the ax away from him then suddenly the direction changed and the ax flew toward the four men standing with drawn guns. The rapid action caused them to duck and pull triggers at the same time. Bullets flew into the air, going high above Blake’s head. Then the two guns of Poco flamed at his sides. Two men beside Lafe dropped to the dusty ground. Lafe sprinted for the corner of the hotel, Clem right behind him. Lead from Poco’s two pistols hurrying their flight.
Poco’s horse had been standing in the shade of the hotel watching its master when the gunfire erupted. When the two running men rounded the corner of the hotel the horse screamed and charged. Lafe went rolling across the ground when the horse’s shoulder ploughed into him. Clem tried to dodge but the horse’s teeth grabbed his shirt sleeve. With a mighty heave the horse flung the man by the arm against the wall of the hotel. The building shook and Clem oozed down to the dust of the alley.
When the dust settled Blake stood over Lafe with the man’s gun in his hand and Poco stood rubbing the neck of his horse, smoke still curling up from the barrels of his two revolvers. “Sable, she is one good horse. When her master is in trouble, she steps right in to add her weight to the outcome.” A chuckle left Poco’s throat as he rubbed Sable’s nose.
“I wonder if Lafe and Clem have ever been beaten up by a horse before, Poco. Do you think we’d ought to find that tar and feathers for them? No use letting it go to waste is there?” Blake winked at his friend when he saw Lafe’s eyes dilate.
“You ain’t serious, are you preacher? We were just funnin you.” The man still on the ground whined.
Sable followed his master to the still dazed Clem lying against the wall of the hotel. Reaching down Poco grabbed the man by the back of his shirt and lifted him to a standing position. “Clem, you know where the tar and feathers are. If you talk fast my amigo and I might let you go and just use them on your buddy Lafe.”
Clem stammered. “If I help you the boss will kill me. He ain’t going to like you poking your nose into something which don’t concern you, Mex.”
“This boss of yours, is he the one sicced you and your friends onto the preacher, Clem?”
Poco dropped one hand to a gun butt.
“Keep your mouth shut, Clem. If the preacher wants to tar and feather us let him go ahead, but we ain’t got nothing more to say. Besides the rest of the boys will be in town tonight and they can finish the job we messed up on.” Lafe crawled to his feet, staring defiantly at Blake.
“Poco, the good book says, if a man wants you to walk a mile with him, then go with him two miles.
