Rejected and abandoned, hampered by a physical disability, young Gauderion overcomes these obstacles to rise to power in the Hashem Kingdom, only to be falsely accused of treason and pursued by an insane king. The Shepherd King Saga is a creative retelling of the life of the Biblical King David set in the fantasy world of Altaran. This is book one of a two-book series which also serves as a prequel to the epic fantasy series, The Chronicles of Altaran. Discover how a man after God’s own heart could both rise to greatness and also sow the seeds to destroy his own family.
I just finished listening to the AI-narrated audio version of The Shepherd King Saga, and I have to say—it really drew me in. The characters felt real and relatable, especially Gauderion, the "Lion Slayer." I found myself rooting for him the whole way through, even when I wanted to yell at him for making poor decisions. You know those moments in life when you can see someone heading down the wrong path, but they won’t listen? That’s exactly how I felt when he ignored the prophet’s warnings or tried to justify sins he had already committed. It was frustrating in the best way—like watching someone you care about struggle through something you know they could avoid.
The book ends in such a powerful spot—right as the prophet Nathaniel comes to tell Gauderion it’s time to take his place as king. It left me pumped and eager to dive into the next part of the journey. I've already downloaded book two and can't wait to see what happens next.
This story is heartfelt, intense, and deeply human, even in its fantasy setting. It’s a creative and emotional retelling inspired by the life of King David, and it left a strong impression on me.
