I gave it a good try and might continue listening just because I spent the credit but it's really hard to listen without getting annoyed by the characters and world and plot. I wasn't expecting Rothfuss level storytelling but this is just so lame. Like, I get it, the main character is immature and naive, that's forgivable, but it's hammered on too much. The dialogue at times is stunningly stupid, and other times is boring and predictable. I like the idea of integrating the tarot themes and some real esoteric ideas in the plot, but it's not done well enough to keep me interested.

Well, the world building doesn't suck. I liked the artifacts and magic in the story. there were some surprises that the author worked into the piece well.
There were a lot of unimaginative cliches and a man writing about a girl becoming a woman just seems weird and fake. Still, it is a complete coherent story, written, edited, and performed acceptably
So, you see me oscillating between liking the ideas and cringing at many parts of the story. I'm a big fan of the fantasy genre. I suppose I wasn't the target audience. I liked that the author didn't shy away from dark topics like evil puppet masters and assassinations, death, and murder. There was almost a philosophical discussion on how the different kinds of murder are perceived by society.
I didn't like the direction the author chose to take the main character in...they seem to want to make her a real person with flaws and complexity but then they chicken out and go for purity and innocence every time despite the whole situation being anything but. Yes, I'm being vague to avoid spoilers.
The author seems to commit to a kind of early steampunk magical Britain but then layers on top modern belief systems that wouldn't have developed in that kind of time period.
I liked the challenge to slavery and the challenges to religions.
I liked the acknowledgement of torture but without actual discussing detailed acts of torture.
I don't know, It's a mixed bag and thus my rating. The Author writes better than Ed Greenwood whose Forgotten Realms world building is fantastic. I feel maybe the problem is fleshing out the outline.
Lastly, the author begs for five stars in his epilogue. I paid for the book, I read the book. It isn't a five star book for me.

Might be a great story but it seemed more like an outline. The author goes into great detail in some ways and other chapters are one sentence. The performance was great and the only reason I listened at all.

I really enjoyed this story! Kat's journey and struggles were fun to follow. The editing made it a little hard to get through with the audio and some lines and even a whole chapter being repeated. Overall it's a good listen and will probably be listening to it again.

The entire book 1 could have been a chapter. We spent too much time discussing a menstrual cycle of a child and how that pertains to her sexual potential. Very disturbing. Book 2, something finally starts happening. Then it stops. I really dislike the MC and really agree with the opposition. Not a good series.

The narrator doesn't seem to have the vocal range to to credibly produce multiple characters. Many of the characters sound exactly alike.

The sound production is not very smooth. Background noise is noticable at the end of each chapter

An amazing fantasy journey and well worth the read!!
Surprise twists that you don't see coming keep you on your toes throughout the whole series. I loved and found the connection between the story and with tarot very clever. Terrific audio narration.
I recommend this series for any fantasy lover!

Could not finish this book, this is one of the few stories where i really disliked the main character and felt the rest where just one dimensional with no real redeeming qualities. It was very painful to listen to the inner monologue of the main character when all she seemed to do was wine and is never able to focus on her task at hand.

I disliked most of it, I truthfully can’t name anything I did like, I just suffered through because I’m stubborn and I wasted a credit on it. I wish there was a way to get my credit back.

Personally not a fan of this narrator, author or title. Terrible suggestion audible
