Acerca de esta escucha

Best-selling, award-winning author Marsha Canham sweeps us into the turbulence and romance of Scotland's quest for freedom in a saga of two born enemies whose lives and destinies are irrevocably bound to the fate of an empire.

Forced into an unwanted marriage by a reckless game of chance, how was the spoiled and pampered Catherine Augustine Ashbrooke to know the handsome stranger with the brooding midnight eyes would make her the pawn in a dangerous game of his own?

Alexander Cameron may have won the highborn English beauty in a duel, but not even the lure of long-forgotten desires could keep him from his meeting with destiny. He had no choice but to carry his reluctant bride off to the Highlands, to a world of ancient blood feuds and a brewing rebellion - a world where fiery passion and breathtaking courage would prove that even legendary warriors could lose their hearts.

Contains mature themes.

It was an decent book... There was a LOT of facts and historical description and history packed in... I liked it but if I'd known how it ended and how it was going to proceed... I think I would have passed. While it was well written, there was just so much that could have been cut and made to one book. The next book could have been about another of the MC's. So much is just left up in the air... I want to see how it works out but I'm not sure if I would use a credit on it...

Cliffhanger

Oh my gosh ….. I can’t read a story when I hate the heroine. What a monster. She’s a spoiled brat and difficult to even care about. Without some ability to empathize. I want me mint back.

So dissatisfied that the story would continue in another book! Irritating narrator in that she didn’t drop her voice while reading the male voices-so much so that you can’t tell who is speaking.

No ending!

I read this book 20 years ago. I enjoyed the story BUT the narrator was awful! I almost gave up on her. Too bad, she sort of ruined the story for me.

Good story… bad narrator

This is my first Marsha Canham book and it is an epic tale of the events leading up to the battle of Culloden in 1745. Very interesting time period and shows the dilemma of the Scottish clans to pick sides as Bonnie Price Charlie wants to gain the Scottish and English throne and one can see how hopeless this cause is from the start. The romance is unique and the book must be read with the consideration that it was written in the 1980s and there is a lot of sexual assault threatened and some that occurred in the past. This audiobook narrator has issues with men's voices and they are hard to distinguish who is speaking but I still enjoyed the story. This book is part one of the love story and leaves on a cliffhanger that we must read the sequel to get the final HEA. I thought the parting scene at the end was very well done and poignant and gave me lots of feels.

Jacobite Romance

The main character whined to much about everything throughout the story and the plot was too predictable.

Too whiney and typical plot

This is my first of Marsha Canham's stories. The story is mostly of conflict/angst between H&H. That got old quickly. And with 2 hours left in the book, I knew this was going to be a cliffhanger! I won't be getting #2 in this series.
As for the narrator, I've listened to her before, that's one reason I got this book. But her male and female characters all sound alike. 😬

ok but cliffhanger

The writing Seems to be very childish and couldn't get past the first chapter. It is just my opinion, I'm sure there are many that like it.
