Acerca de esta escucha
Although author Andy Stankowski managed to overcome most of the challenges that he encountered in his life, he endured two episodes of emotional trauma that he was unable to get over and leave behind. The initial feelings of heartache, failure, and guilt resulted in a lingering depression that never let up. For years Stankowski’s mind was trapped in a negative circular thought pattern that he had difficulty breaking out of. The final grieving stage of acceptance and being able to move on eluded him.
Since his youth Stankowski kept a journal which helped him to reflect and assess problems and how to deal with them. However, writing in his diary did not provide him with the relief that he sought in these two situations. Nor did talking about it and searching for guidance and advice from others. Eventually, Stankowski resorted to writing stories about the two traumatic events in his life that had caused him such difficulty. He wrote the manuscripts and made the books available on Amazon’s websites. In both cases, the act of writing the manuscripts opened unhealed wounds and retraumatized him. However, immediately after publishing his stories, he felt relieved and liberated. Writing and publishing the two stories had been the therapy that he needed to finally achieve closure and find the happiness that had been missing for so long.
In this book, Stankowski describes the two situations that had traumatized him and how he wrote the stories about them. He then describes the origins and some of the history of “Writing Therapy” and how writing and publishing his books provided him with the joy that he sought for so many years. The author also provides some tips on book writing and self-publishing, based on his experience.
The Joy of Book Writing Therapy should be of interest to all those suffering from emotional trauma as well as the mental health counsellors and therapists who provide services to such patients and clients.
